Even with modding there is no getting away from the fact that they are old cars. However between 2004-2007 I used to attend Swiss vette meet at Hockenheim where there were a number of C2's in various stages of modification. Some did very well on the track, especially when you take into account that they were sharing the track with much newer gens of cars such as the C5 and C6. I remember many of these running with quite a few C4 suspension parts underneath.
There is an alternative though, a C2 looking shell on Z06 running gear.. Some done like it and I hated the C1 on the C5 but the slightly wider C2 looks fantastic in my opinion and you get modern running gear/reliability/fuel consumption etc. but they're not cheap. I'd have one in a blink of an eye if I won the lotto

I'd like a Grand Sport TBH or even a replica. U can check out my site (I've never got around to finishing it mind). Look for Fame car show as there's a nice C1 and C2 that go here which are on modern running gear. There's also a few pics of C2's at Hockenheim in the C2 gallery. The C2 on the C6 Z06 was doing the rounds on Facebook a while ago. Not sure if I ever saved any photos f it though.

If you were to put a different chassis (to accept C5 running gear) on your C2 you would fall foul of the single type registration laws since it would no longer be accepted as a C2 Corvette by the Transport Ministry. Tony (Scovette) and Scott at Corvette Kingdom looked into this when they built Tony's car.
