ive had the pleasure of doing 2000 miles in a brand new c6 recently , the car performed great and was everything id hoped it would be , plenty of power , great steering feel , comfortable ride for a sports car etc

now id always had my eye on a c5 , driven one years ago but cant really recall its merits

would i be gutted getting a c5 after enjoying a c6

Hi
A "new" car is going to feel real good, a new c6 is going to feel great compared to a c5 with a few miles on it .

Think it may just come down to which one you like more visually, and cost .

I reckon if you could beg , borrow a c5 for 2k miles you would have fun biggrin

Bottom line there both great cars , go for the looks then worry about the ££ .

If this is going to be your main toy , newer , low miles kinda does it for me.

cheers , and just imho biggrin

C6 is a bit more refined, and more developed because its newer. Is that better. Depends on your view really. I have my Z06 C6 but would never sell my C4 ZR1. Admittedly it's far from stock which may be one of the reasons but they are both completely different cars to drive despite having similar horsepower. On a 2700 mile trip in Europe this year the Z06 performed as expected. It took 2 weeks worth of luggage easily. Could cover 1200km in a day with ease. Managed 192mph on Tom Tom on the autobahn and a track day at Modena. However. 3 hair pins into a mountain pass in Italy, I turned to my wife and said I wished I was in the ZR1. Fact is the ZR1 would have left the Z06 for dead on that pass, would have been more enjoyable to drive and the sound would have been way nicer. Is newer always better? Well yes... and no.

If you're only just gonna stretch to a C6, it's not going to be the best example. Get a good C5 or perhaps a C5 Z06 or ask VetGuru as he stepped back to a C5

I've had both, in Z06 guise, and while the C6 was 'better' in every quantifiable sense, I'd be more than happy with a C5 if budget was an issue. And it's entirely subjective, but I prefer the looks of the C5, especially in Z06 spec.

Not sure what you drive now. Your profile suggests some kind of VW. I very much doubt you'll be disappointed with either.

C6 is "better" than its Mk 1 predecessor (C5) in every way. But fundamentally they are very closely related.

If I didn't already own a Vette I'd have bought a C6. However, for me personally the difference between the two cars was not enough to justify selling my C5 to buy a C6.

One thing to add. With auto transmission cars I reckon the 6-speed paddle shift (C6 only) is a truly massive improvement over the previous 4-speed unit (C5 and earliest C6's). I'm not aware of any material differences in the case of manual transmission cars.

If you want pop-up headlamps there's only one way to go!! biggrin

The C5 is a better looking car if that helps.
