Hi guys, I just had some fitted in the OE size and I can't recommend them highly enough already! I can't wait to see what they're going to be like on track. The traction available over 2 last 2 sets of tyres I've had is way better. Previously planting the throttle in first with a rolling start would have resulted in lots of squirming and a nice big nr 11 on the tarmac, it was almost the same story in second by just planting the throttle from about 4,000rpm.
Now from a 10mph rolling start on a road it wheelspins slightly but after the initial kick it grips and goes...you don't need to lift and feather the throttle atall! My car just went from quick to rocket ship fast!

The closest I can explain the grip levels is like the Nitto NT05's when fresh and hot...are like these cold, I cant wait to get them on track and warmed up to see how much they can knock off my lap times!
Dunlop supercar OE runflats are not even close to either in terms of grip.

They cost me something like 1,600USD (including 348USD shipping) from tirerack and took 5 days to deliver from Chicago to Qatar!

You can also go for 285x35x18 and 345x30x19 which should give even more grip but I didn't know this was an option at the time of ordering.

In summary, don't buy anything else for your Z06's chaps...these things are the danglies!

Great to hear as I have just ordered a set from Tire Rack last night for my Z06! The old Goodyear run flats had so little grip it was very funny, although a little scary in thrid gear at 3 figures mid overtake....

Which size did you go for?

FYI in case you didn't know, all PSS are made without the use of mould release agents so there is no bedding in process required. I did a couple of mildy aggressive brakes and accelerations to test this before giving it some abuse and it's true.

I went for the O.E size as the car is quite low on its coilover suspension and I did not want to risk rubbing issues. I am afraid the car will not be driven for a while after the tires are fitted as the valve guides are worn (Right at the service limit) so it is having them replaced along with steel valves. To make the most of having the engine apart I'm going to swap the pistons at the same time. The car has a cam, headers, race cats, CAI already, so going to add an LSX induction manifold and a Nick Williams 102 throttle body to finish it off. Once all this is installed it should go quite well, can't wait!

Question on the valve guides. How did you catch the issue? Was it ticking loudly on idle or something? Mine ticks like a sewing machine between 2-3k rpm but I'm told this is normal and a trait of the engine.

Mine also ticks a lot between 2-3k. It has got louder as the miles have gone on. I took the car to a trusted garage who took the head covers off, they then were able to measure the movement from the top of the valve and calculate back the movement at the bottom. I was present and using my fingers I could wiggle the the valve in the guide and see the movement with the naked eye quite clearly. I drove home a lot slower! All the guys in the states I have spoken to confirm it is a case of when, not if, the valves need replacing. It is not a big job and the car is well worth the effort in my opinion. There is a good thread on the corvette forum with photos of the proceedure which I will try and find for you.

Hi JM, sorry for the hijack Toby, who is the garage you are using for the heads ?
I have a ticking when cold but it goes in five mins when warm, I think it's a slack header.
I am worried about the valve guide issue as well and have been looking for a good place to
go to get mine done.
Any pointers on what your getting done, etc, etc, you could PM me a ballpark price as well if
you wouldn't mind thanks.
I'm with you on the tyres,fishtailing at 70 ain't fun ............ wink

Dave.

Having recommended the Michelin Pilot Super Sports for sometime I can say that they are very well balanced for general road use and better than the F1 Supercars for moving water, their only downside being they are not runflat so you will need an inflation kit in the car.

One thing I would mention is that the tyre compounds that work for Toby may not work well in the UK. With ambient temperatures being so much higher in Qatar you would likely find that harder compounds fair better there, but may be very difficult to bring up to temperature in the UK, particularly as we get deeper into autumn.

I'd stick with the Michelin's over here.

Hi Dave, sorry for the delay. I am using an old family friends garage in Tipton St John in Devon. They are a father and son team who have been building and maintaining historic race engines for many years. I will PM their details and a price.
