im still sniffing around c5's asking prices seem to be all over the place , but alot of cars remain for sale for months

what do you think a realistic price range is for a early ish c5 thats genuine and in need of no repairs etc , doesnt have to be mega low miles

Steve, I think you're looking at £12k and up - but as much as prices are all over the place so is condition, so either check any prospective car out carefully or get someone to do it for you.

I've been looking as well and the prices are all over the place. I think £12 - £14k is a reasonable price but theres some cars priced at £18k! You can buy a Z06 C5 from Bauer Millet for £20k with low mileage why would you buy a normal C5 privately for £18k? Even LS2 C6's prices are starting to come in below £20k.

I would doubt it. I don't think C6's even put much of a dent into C5 prices. They seem to have held at a minimum of 11k ish for 2-3 years I think. Buyers for a C7 will be in a different group to the C5 buyers.

Part of the seemed arresting of the depreciation curve (for the lower priced end) is perhaps down to C5's being pretty durable, especially in the paint and trim departments, so I haven't seen many (or any?) that look like wrecks on first glance.

Previous generations tend to show their mortality a bit more visibly, poor paint, brittle/broken trim even rust in some cases, it doesn't mean you don't get say a nice C2,3 or 4, but you also see a proportion of "survivors"

I have just imported a 1999 Corvette, myself. I want to drive it for a while, but it looks like i'll still get my money back in a year or two.

Hi all,

I have also been looking at Corvettes for a while now. I've been to see one at a dealer (C5) and liked it. Just not driven one yet so not sure how I'd get on with LHD.
I'm in a position to buy one now at the right money having sold my LS2 Monaro, but I'm considering holding out and saving a bit more for a C6. The paddle shift cars are really appealing and would be one less thing on the 'wrong side' to worry about hehe

If I went for a C5, it would have to be a straight manual and I would look to supercharge it as soon as I could afford to.
Does anybody on here have a charged C5 out of interest???

Sorry to highjack the thread, but what are the aftermarket exhaust options? I see most have Borla. How much is one of these systems if I was factoring this into the price of a car with the standard system. A sports exhaust IMO is essential.
Where could I pick one up if I went for a standard car?

Hi another one that went to France I`m afraid . Working on a replacement though biggrin

Exhaust`s , you may find most cars have been upgraded , i like corsa exhausts but probably best to hear a few first , easy to spend a grand and up.
Cheers bud

+1 for Corsa exhausts. Had a cat back system on the Camaro and in my opinion there wasn't a better sounding exhaust. Your going to be looking at £1200 - £1400 by the time it's imported. Not sure if anyone imports them in this country, might have to go state side and do it yourself.

If your going to be supercharging it as well your going to have to think about beefing up the gearbox, half shafts etc.

Wow, now that's what I'm talking about!!! Looks like a total beast!!! What was that producing?
Have you found the base car yet for your next project?
Stop sending them to France!!! There are buyers over here!!! Haha

Thanks for the info guys.
Ah, I kind of guessed that I might have to ship from the US. I just hoped there were stockists/tuners over here where parts for these cars/engines are readily available.

It was the same story with the HSV's and stuff from Aus, however there are 'friendly' places who stock a lot of stuff for the LS Engines over here.

Is the standard gearbox in the C5 not up to handling +500Bhp. I take it the clutch will also need upgrading?

What superchargers are guys putting on their LS1's and 2's? (I've heard of Whipple) hehe
If SC'ing turns out to be a can of worms how else are extra BHP's being achieved without destroying the drivetrain (Headers/Cats/Intakes etc)???

Basically, I'm just trying to weigh up the options of finding an already modded car (rocking horse poop) or finding a nice standard car and having a play... scratchchin

Hi , that was a kenne bell pd blower, minimum 8lbs boost got me 650 fw hp ,530 rwtq .
Never did do the motors crank , pistons so left it at that boost.

Traction was an issue lol , do you need more for the street ?

Lots of blowers out there , most go centrifugal , but I just love top mount blowers .

My replacement is getting good , lots of work .

Vaughan ,cheers mate, all part of the plan lol.
