Hi Guys,

Can you please tell me if it is worth considering a 1968 - 1972 Big Block manual convertible without Power Steering?

I think there is probably mixed feelings on this subject, but my previous C3 had power steering and I think it would have been hard work without it.

Thanks, Mike.

Not getting much response here Mike, I would be wary of a big block without PS, mind you you could always add it, I believe you can get several aftermarket kits. Speed Direct do a rack and pinion steering rack conversion and as I recall they have a PS option which can be added, see http://www.speeddirect.com/

Hope this helps.

If its of any relevance my manual BB '68 has power steering but non power brakes. I have wide low profile rubber and a tiny 12 1/2" steering wheel - despite the PS with the small steering wheel its about as light as a European car with PS. I would really struggle without the PS!

I had a 2 Corvettes from that era , one rat 454 and one mouse 350 , neither had p/s . Parking was more of a trial but once on the move things were fine.

Hi Mikial,

Thanks for your input, as I won't be parking other than in a straight line, I guess it is not such a mammoth problem.

Cheers, Mike.

Some people have had issues installing Steeroids - I would think that a look at electric r & p would be worth thinking about - plenty of cars use it now.

Sorry to hijack thread, but +3 to saying how great your C3 looks. Is that a original corvette colour or custom paint job? It looks incredibly deep and so shiny it looks wet, must have quite a few layers of clear coat on that?

The colour is Marlboro Maroon and is the original colour, paintwork was done by Corvette Kingdom some 8 years ago. Since then its had regular (one or twice a year) clay bar, polish (McGuires) and waxing (Dodo juice). It's no show queen though, it was built to drive hence all the mods. Have a look at my website and you will get all the specs there.

Now back to Big Block power steering or no power steering...biggrin

Who is brave (and strong) enough to drive a non p/s BBC car with the steering box drop arm on the 'inner' p/steered hole?
