I had to put my car through its annual tests this week and as part of the tests, they weigh the car, I thought it would be 1450kg or more, but, with a boot full of jumper cables and tools and half a tank of petrol it weighed in at...

1387kg!

If I pulled all the tools out of the car that could be 1380kg...I am really impressed its that light!

Fine by me! biggrin I jacked it up to change the brake pads and if you jack it up to get the front wheel off the ground, the back wheel starts to lift at the same time as the front too! talk about a stiff chassis!

I just jacked it up on the jacking point, I just used a piece of wood between the chassis and the 2t trolly jack I was using

Yes, impressive, it would be interesting to see the difference with a regular 6.2 auto.
It is not down to the weight but...
I briefly test drove a European spec Z06 in Italy and it impressed me while the C6 6.2 convertible auto I later hired for a week in US somehow disappointed me. The suspensions were softer, the steering more vague and the chassis response less convincing. Even with the not sharp auto and without the 7.0 litres it had plenty of go but it is a very different car...

Having driven both i found the lesser C6 to be quite nimble to get around. And driving down A roads fast didnt require as much attention as in the Z. Which tramlined terribly.

Well, I drrove the Z06 for half an hour or so while I covered 1,500 miles in the C6 convertible so probably I didn't noticed some of the Z06 shortcomings while I had all the time to notice what I didn't like in the C6. It certainly is a nimble car but given its pace I'd liked a bit more composure down some demanding roads.

Thanks Mitch, didn't notice the hood. Guy has another video on the GP circuit with the same car claiming to be a "standard" C6 auto/paddle shift. Perhaps not then?

Well, no. Actually may be I have been a little unlucky with that hired example. It had 25k miles on the clock, not much in absolute terms but it was a rent car after all, suspensions, chassis, brakes were probably abused by a number of drivers.

Actually it has been still a positive experience, I don't remember the exact amount, around 850$ I think, but in Europe you won't be able to get more than 150hp car or so for that for a week...I once spent £1300 for a weekend in a R8 rented with Hertz at Heathrow.

My 25 year old Alpine has only 1 jacking point on each side for removing front or rear wheels

Well i was comparing the Z06 with my previous Z51 C6. Which is quite a bit above a C6 rental in terms of "set up" and composure.

Has anyone got any figures for the tortional ridgity Of the C6 or C6Z chassis (as they are different materials)? Most cars are approaching 30,000NM/degree these days.

No figures here but an interesting read. The Z06 chassis is reportedly a 50% improvement over the the original C5/6 chassis. Out of interest I've read somewhere that the C7 is a 57% improvement over the C6's steel chassis.
