Is it just me, or does anyone else find that the day you take your car (or cars) for the MOT can be a little bit stressful? A few years ago, took my C4 for the test and only noticed when I got home that the reg mumber on the MoT cert was wrong. Could the garage and VOSA just sort it out and send me a corrected certificate? No,a guy from the VOSA had to come and inspect the car before I could get a new certificate.

Took my 2007 C6 for the MoT today. First time I have needed to get it MoT'd. I like my MoT man. Independent tyre dealer that also does MOTs. Very thorough and helpful (I think?). Although I have noticed the one or two "advisories" noted on the certificate for my C4 in one year tend to disappear the next time, to be replaced with on or two new ones and they disappear the next time round(?)

Bought a C6 imported from Europe last year and had the lights changed to UK spec ones, although my MoT guy said at the time he would pass it with the Euro lights on it. So my guy checks the lights today and says they are "miles out" (won't pass) pointing down too much and also need side to side/lateral adjustment.

I tell him that to my knowledge there is no left to right or vice-versa adjustment. So I do quick internet search in his garage for this:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-corvette-genera...

They do the adjustment(using the 6mm Allen wrench I presume) and say that they have have also adjusted them lateraly/there is an adjuster/using a "ball-ended allen wrench." Car now passes MoT. Relief!

So now happy and collect the invoice and certificate. Just before driving off, decide to check the cert just in case he has recorded the mileage in kms instead of miles. Look in the advisory column and it says "Nail in n/s rear tyre." I have already told them that there is no spare with this car, but in their rush to get the next car on the ramps/tested, they have forgotten to verbally mention it to me before leaving(?)

So I go back in and mention the "nail." Per him its just a small nail and they don't know if it has gone all through the tread. I tell him it's an "EMT" tyre. He asks whats "EMT"? I tell him its a "runflat" and can he look at it/fix it for me. He says generally we don't fix runflats. I tell him the tyre has not deflated, so there is no sidewall damage, so should be repairable(?). OK he says, bring it back next week.

I need a drink tonight!

Repairing run flats is no different to a normal tyre. If the nail is near the sidewall you are stuffed but that is no different to a normal tyre. Not meaning to intrude I would suggest taking your car to someone who has a clue......

Thanks Adeyb/Mitch - As you know, there have been quite a few posts about C6 tyres on here and the CCUK website (e.g.run-flats or non run-flats when replacing). I think it's John (?) on the CCUK website (black C6 convertible) has had a similar "we don't repair runflats/tyrewall may be damaged if you have driven on it/would need to X-ray it" experience.

Anyway, will let my MoT man have a look at it next week/seems willing to repair. I checked/compared the tyre pressures in the rear tyres when I got home. Both the same (30 psi) so no deflation/low tyre pressure warnings from the car.

The nail could be plugging the hole....though there may not be a hole. If it makes you feel any better the construction work was being completed on the 47 storey Hilton Tower behind our showroom when I had my first Z06 in 2006 and by the time I threw them away I had four repairs in each rear thanks to everything the workers dropped on the road. Naughty of me but I decided to use them till the death as they were rubbish, slippery and very fun....

Thanks Mitch, Yes, I was wondering that about the nail. Re your Z06 tyres, that was "exceptionally" naughty of you considering that I seem to remember you advising on here (not too long ago) not to run the tyres down to the limit. wink What was the tread depth you were recommending changing at again? Mine (original ones/checked today) have 4mm of tread left, so 62% worn according to the chart they gave me (2.4 mm of tread over 1.6 mm legal minimum from new 8mm tread depth).

Just a quick one on the nail in the tyre - also had this. Believe that Goodyear 'stipulate' that their runflats aren't repaired. Had mine repaired and still runs fine.
