A sitting here watching the Barrett Jackson auctions and the first 'retail 2013' Corvette has just been sold for $1,050,000 plus commission. The buyer can pick it up from the GM design studio. Some people have more money than sense. Retail price yet to be announced here in the US.

Nope, 2014 is the official MY - I was swiftly corrected by Chevrolet for saying 2013 on launch night. hehe

Anyway, it seems Rick Hendrick of NASCAR fame bought it, which is kinda cool. Bought it right after dropping $1m on the L88 race car, and has been snapping up a bunch of other odd stuff. Guess there's not many broke NASCAR team owners.

Actually Stu R is correct here. All 2013MY cars are C6's and GM never mix model years. Instead they bring model years forward so this particular car will be the earliest 2014MY. GM's own blog confirms it.

Either way, over $1 mil is still mental. Wonder what the depreciation will be by the end of 2015.

Around 1.02 million in depreciation I should think! I can't see it being anywhere near special enough to command it's purchase price in <50 years. Worth bearing in mind it was for charity, so it'll probably be a nice little tax break too.

If I had that kind of cash to spend on a car I would rather have had the L88 68 race car.

Its for charity! I'm glad it went for so much.

Compare with the viper which has an MSRP pretty much 2x the corvette which sold for only $300,000 in first build.

Viper is DOA. Only same/similar performance to the ZR1 from 2010. It needed at least 700bhp IMO.
