i've had no accidents, have been driving for a year. i've been saving up since 18 to buy one but now the biggest obstacle, which is insurance. who will insure a 500hp corvette to a 22 year old, who is the cheapest, but the most important question, is it even wise to go for the 4 year old ambition so young ? cheers

Why not ask some insurance companies? We don't know your personal circumstances, where you live, where you intend to garage. It's quite possible to get online quotes for insurance using the internet.

I think your best bet would be to start with a C6 or even a good C5 to get
some time with one and prove to an insurance company that you can handle
the power and not stuff it straight away.
I think going straight into a C6 Z06 will probably end up badly, as I think i'm not a bad
driver and at 47 having had vettes and yanks since I was 24, my C6 Z06 scares ths sh*t
outta me sometimes.
It takes a lot of experience to keep it on the road esp' in the wet - not good!
Go for a base model first for experience in my opinion.

Expect a lot of sucked air through teeth.
As said, you would be better off building up slowly and I would advise something like a C5 Corvette with the 345hp LS1 engine, manual if possible and over 10 years old asclassic insurance may be easier to come by. Have it as a low mile car so you can have limited mileage. Most will just say no based on age and lack of LHD experience (a catch 22-the latter).

The REAL issue is not so much the power - its the driver 'aids' like traction, yaw control and ABS etc with higher powered cars. They will give some people a false sense of security so when something goes wrong - it goes wrong badly and unpredictably. A couple of years or so ago we had a younger guy (I thing this name was Sonny) from Ilford, which is not a particularly good postcode from an insurance point of view who bought a 2 or 3 year old C5 Vette - he was paying (amazingly) then about £500 as year - probably significantly more now, but would be certainly easier to insure than - Z06's (with their specialist contruction) have a tendency to get written-off fairly easily.

You can get an LS1 camaro for just over £3k
Z06 would be nice, but insurance sounds bad.

Are there specialist insurance companies insuring these cars . My TVR is over 15 years old with around the same power has a box standard c5 but is a much lighter car .

Im paying around £300 .What would a C5 cost for a 44 year old with no points and accident in the last five years .

My NCB is not used on this policy .How does it work with Cars under 15 years old. cheers

Yes there are specialists and it would probably cost around the same for a 44 year old, but the OP is 22, that's a world of difference to insurance companies.

I'm 46 and my 2006 C6 is just over £400 FC. That's around a £1 an HP.

Your age and car might not be a factor, If You had high perf. car since You were 18 than any specials will insure it without problems but they will take other factors into account:

- how many cars do You own ( if You live with parents and this is Your only car , will be harder to insure)
- how many miles will it do and where it`s kept
- what do You for living and where do You live

I know that insurance prices went a lot up and 10years ago it was probably easier to sort "individual" insurance.

The price will not change over the Years when i bought C5 in 06 i was 23 and paid 533gbp for insurance , now i pay 283gbp. IT`s garaged and limited to 6k miles, with all mods declared. I have 3 points and 1 accident claim.

You have to create safe environment for the car and its use.

Call all insurers You come across it`s the only way. Insurace became to individual to ask on the forum, I You were in my home country I`d tell you exactly what would You pay because its based on engine size (0-1500, 1500-1600,1600-2500 and 2500- above) and 25% increse if You`re under 25.

Good luck.
