Z06 is a fixed roof coupe only. (No hatchback targa, no convertible.)

Beyond that the main points IMO are,
  • Lighter and stiffer aluminium chassis (steel in the other cars)
  • Improved brakes and feel
  • More powerful engine
  • Manual gearbox only
No Corvette is short of power, so IMO if you buy a Z06 do it for the other reasons. driving

Is the C5 plenty available with a manual gearbox , i wonder if it would feel awkward changing gear on the right hand side .Does the auto suck alot more fuel .cheers

Would a car like this be better to go for ,or go more standard .

I have sent you an email.
Fuel consumption is better with the manual (but of course it depends how you drive!!). Gear changing is not a problem, less so if you are right handed. They are mapable but why not just go for the Z06 which is the more desireable and there is quite a performance difference over the base C5.

Of the two cars you linked I'd go for the blue one. It appears "unmolested". Also, I'd have thought the additional front airdam on the black car would last about 15 seconds! C5 is a very LOW car and even the base cars have a flexible front air scoop (under the painted front bumper) to give you some chance of getting over small speed humps without damage.

I would also go for the blue one from those 2. Adrian Dromey is well known in the Corvette world and I believe from what I have been told (never dealt with him personally) that he knows the cars well.
Never heard of the people selling the black one but did notice some pretty daft claims, such as "this car gets more attention than a Ferrari Enzo". Please, how many times has it been next to an Enzo and what exactly is that based on. This sort of statement makes me think bullst artist and I tend to give them a wide berth.

As for Z06 v standard C5, I only have limited experience of this comparison. I was lucky enough to drive a Z06 several years ago and was hugely impressed with the speed. On the other hand I have recently acquired my personal favourite C5 which happens to be a convertible with auto box. I love the car and can't see me parting with it for a very long time, if ever.

Without wishing to cause any offence, your posts suggest that your experience with American cars is limited. If this is the case then you may want to take some time to get to know more about the different models and perhaps speak to some owners and try to work out exactly what you want from the car before making a purchase. My view would be that if you fancy a C5 because they look great and are cheap, reliable and fast, then get the nicest all round car you can find. If you want outright performance and have a strong preference for a manual, then I would say the Z06 would be the only way to go. You need to have a think about what you want from the car before you go for it, although that blue one looks (on paper - I have no personal knowledge of the car) to be one of the nicest I have seen for sale. If I hadn't bought my Pace Car then I think I'd be looking at that blue C5 myself TBH.

The funny thing is with Adrian, almost every car he sells is "the best around" how every car is the best must mean the previous car wasn't quite as good as this one , but a tad better than the last best ever.

The C6 I have now came through him and I must admit it is a beaut, which means the next one he sell has a lot to live up to.

If you fancy a C5 Z06 I believe Rich still has his race replica for sale, a quick reliable car that'll certainly get you noticed.

Good luk in your search.

Prior to the Z06 taking over the shape exclusively in 2001, the fixed roof coupe was also available as a C5 variant in 1999 and 2000 with standard LS1 engine and manual box.
The Z06 came with 385hp and dodgy piston rings in 2001 and thereafter the 405hp variant took over in 2002.

Having owned a Z06, I found the gearshifter an impediment rather than a help to smooth driving. Not everyone agrees but my lack of height means the seat is further forward and the shifter that bit further back. Definitely not my favourite gearbox and for that reason, I would tend to look at automatic C5s (Z06 is manual only). I happen to think the convertible is a very pretty car but the standard targa does offer the beauty of both worlds.

Not a fan of yellow or red cars. But that does look very nice. Does it have the glass roof on it?. I will probably see you New Year's Day. B.t.w manual or auto.
