As an ex-Corvette owner I've still got a passion for them and quite fancy a C5. I've seen the 1998 Pace Car for sale several times on ebay and on here and it doesn't seem to have sold Link: 1998 Pace Car. I can't help wondering if this is down to the rather whacky graphics of the Pace Car or maybe there are problems with the car itself.
It's a bit too far away from me to make viewing easy, so I was wondering if any of you enthusiasts out there know of the car, whether it's a good one or are there issues with it? Any help would be appreciated.

Marmite car is exactly how I would describe it. I have always liked the pace car but am unsure whether I could live with it in the UK as it's pretty OTT. My main concern of course is making sure I get a good car and not one with major issues such as the battery leakage problem I've read about. If this is a good car then I could be interested, but it's a long way for me to go and view. Can anyone recommend an inspection service that's good with Corvettes, or maybe have experience of AA or RAC inspections?

I do like that purple colour though. At the risk of suggesting sacrilege, am I right in thinking that the Pace Car decals may be removable (stick on automotive vinyl?) as opposed to painted on? If so, and you took them off, can get repro decals from the US if you later wanted to restore the car to original spec and the originals were not re-usable?

Renowned Vette specialist Ian Goss in Surbiton (right next to the A3) is between you in the South West and the seller in Herts.

You could remove the decals but they are typically expensive to replace. Even if you did remove them the seats would still be yellow and the steering wheel and shift knob would stitched yellow. I always loved the colour scheme as it was fun and kind of ridiculous.

If you didn't want the pace car colour scheme then it must be easier just to buy a normal C5?

The deed is done, I picked the car up yesterday. Performed beautifully on the drive home. I have always loved the Pace Car, far and away my favourite C5 model. Feels great to rejoin the ranks of Corvette ownership. Now, anyone know someone who fancies a nice M3? smile

Congratulations/Well done/Enjoy! Interesting to see that a man with a Countach 25 Anniversary still has a hankering for a C5 Vette. biggrin
