I may have the opportunity to pick up a 50th anniversary C5 from Canada. Search seems to suggest that once here I would need to get the headlights changed, side repeaters installed, and a fog light installed. Is that the full list of changes needed? What impact to the looks do the changes have?

Also any suggestions for best place(s) to get the changes done at?

No need for headlights. This is my now old guide to passing the SVA (it's now IVA and some things may have changed slightly). The Corvette is good old electrics and no CANBUS crap so anyone can do it but you're better buying the Eckler's rear indicator light kit.

Canadian C5s may come with DRLs ie permanent orange running lights but these are legal provided you also have white sidelights.

The 50th anniversary was 2003 but the American 2003 model year means these were made from 2002 so you MAY get lucky and the car may be 10 years old in which case you don't need IVA, only an MOT which is slightly less rigorous.

I'm sure you know you have to factor in shipping costs (I imported ro-ro which costs less), marine insurance and 10% import duty plus 20% VAT on top of everything.

Thank you LuS1fer - that is what I have been trying to find.

Scary thought needing to drill holes in the side of the car! frown But at least the end result isn't ugly. smile

You don't have to - you can actually mount them in the vents (have to be visible from 5 degrees behind) or in the door mirrors. If I'd have given it more thought, I'd have put them elsewhere and modern LEDs allow far more options to hide them.

You can also do the same as I did with my C6 and keep the red tail lights and fit a small LED to the end of the mirror glass inside the housing.

Speak to Paul at Teslayn Engineering (google it) for the number / website etc.

I agree with vetteheadracer. Paul at Teslayn Engineering Classic Amcar (www.amcar.co.uk) did a great job on my C5 Z06.

However, the point with these car is that you can do it yourself quite easily (unlike modern electronic stuff like the new Mustang) and having it done professionally is a very long way from cheap.

Thank you for all the suggestions guys. The car is my mothers and she wants to pass it on to me (nobody else in the family is interested) - however since it is such a special car she and I are both concerned about ruining it (making it less special) so really wanted to know what needed to be done and what the end result would look like.

Still trying to decide if the changes are worth brining the car over.
