Questions:

What really is the difference between Delco oil filters,

  • PF 44 - which I used to fit on my C5 in its early years,
  • PF 46 - which replaced PF 44, and
  • PF 48 - which is currently recommended for Corvette
Answers:

  • Not much, PF 44 and PF 46 appear to be the same says wiki.answers.com
Part......| Manufacturer | WIX Part
Number ...|..............| Number
PF46......| AC DELCO.....| 51042
PF46......| UNOCAL 76....| 51042

PF44......| AC DELCO.....| 51042
PF44......| UNOCAL 76....| 51042

  • There are suggestions the PF 48 has a different thread and is for LS3 motors only but I've not found any details to back that up.

Early cars definitely use a 13/16" thread filter, same as a lot of older UK cars ( even Rover K series etc )

I think the LS3 uses an M22 thread. Not sure if the cutoff or changeover is as definite as that though.

13/16" is pretty damn close to 20.6mm should measuring the thread sticking out of the sump should give a good indication.

I actually just used an LDV/Delphi filter on my car ( Camaro based sump ). It's almost same outside dimensions and 13/16" thread.
I had been using a K-series filter before, but as they had an internal bypass, I didnt like that.

When they run done I'll just stick an M20xM20 nipple into the sump and switch back to using Citroen fitment etc Purflux filters like I did years ago with a different sump.

Yeah different thread.

Could be Gen3 vs Gen4 as my 2007 LS2 runs the PF48 while the LS1 uses the PF46's

Or could be when the switch to the 58x crank happened...
