Hi guys, I'm off to look at a 2009 Z06 tomorrow and was wondering what to look for...
Now out in the Middle East where I am the locals tend to drive their cars HARD, this one has 16,000km on it but as it's probably been a hard 16,000km.

I'll be checking for the obvious fluid leaks, panel gaps being uneven (accident damage) etc etc.

I have a list of the codes used to state the original spec the car was supplied with that should have been imprinted some where on the car (is the specification sticker on the inside of the door?).

Is there any way to check/test for a knackered Diff/Gearbox/Engine? It is under manufacturer (drivetrain)warrenty until 2013 and I'll be checking with the ONLY dealer here to see that the odometer is right and if it has had any work under warrenty.

Any and all advice appreciated.

The codes should be on the glovebox door I beiieve.
Have heard about diffs leaking from seals on drive shafts, not sure how prevelant tho.
Has it had new tyres, when, what are the present ones like.
Service history etc the usual stuff.

Dave.

Thanks for that friend! I shall have a look. After 4 years and 9,600miles of reasonable driving do you think it should of had new tyres?

Well firstly it appears it is a genuine 09MY car as the spider wheel started then. There is little you can really check beyond what would come out from a careful drive, but if you haven't drive one before it will be more difficult for you to know what it should be like.

As for tyres, the link you have posted appears to show the car on non-OEM tyres though I can't work out what they are, possibly Nitto? They certainly aren't original but that doesn't surprise me. Rears over here are typically good for 6,000 miles and the fronts will last double that. We have seen a number of diff leaks now and this is a fair job to resolve in terms of time but there aren't many other things I can point you towards, other than oil leaks and oil condition. Only other thing to mention is that the carbon nose and side splitters are non-OEM and the nose splitter appears to be quite battered.

If it is of help I can have a look at the build/warranty record if you have the VIN number. I would be particularly interested as to its warranty expiry date because its warranty should expire this year unless they didn't sell it until 2010......Rare colour combo!

Thanks fella, I'll be seeing it tomorrow at 3pm UK time and I'll be taking pics of the diff/vin etc etc.

I'll be going to the local dealer on Saturday too to see what the history & any paperwork it comes with reveals.

Congrats! Wish we were having the sort of weather you must be getting in Qatar :-(

Just looked at your garage... if you think a Saab 9-3 2.8 V6 Turbo goes like a scalded cat, what metaphor are you going to use for the Z06?!

Thanks, I have to get the finances in order this week but that is merely a formality. I honestly kept expecting it to have some flaw but its basically been a rich guys toy who now wants a ZR1. Its been cared for by a true petrolhead and I he's even promised me a ride in the ZR1 when it arrives!!! biggrin

Well, the Saab will be demoted to being the shopping car for the Mrs.

Can't wait to stretch it's legs out here!
