Wow!! A Z06 soft top! Now that is going to be a hell of a combo. Pity it took them 6 years to get around to offering it for sale but I bet they sell a lot of those in the last year of the C6.

I take it these dont have the alloy chassis as the roofs not required as part of the structure.

If i was able to change anything it would be the "entertainment centre" should be
like the one in a GTR with hard drive "i wassname" connection and
bluetooth for phone etc.
The only other thing would be the seats, should have a choice of "sports" seats ie good
wrap around ones, or normal "american bod" seats, i know which i would have.
Sorry been looking at GTRs too much.

The supposed track orientation of the Z06 is highly compromised due to the intrusive and inflexible nanny state electronics, so that is the main thing I would change. Such as:
1. Swapping the seats for race types messes up the air bags.
2. Ditto the steering wheel. It should be possible to simply disable these things in the driver options.
3. Allow option of disabling the ABS for track use.
4. TPS - It should be possible to fit non-TPS wheels for track use without the car going into limp home "safe mode". Alternatively, the car should be able to "learn" new TPS sensors on your other set of wheels without a visit to the computer shop.
5. Fit some decent quality front brakes as standard instead of the comedy discs and callipers presently supplied.
6. Don't use a weird tyre size combination which no other car on earth is using.
7. Alternatively, don't employ marketing touting the Z06 as being "track oriented", because it isn't.
8. In the factory, when you slide the stub axle splines into the rear wheel bearings, try using some anti-seize compound so that the bloody things will come apart again.

That is said with reference to "an experience" I think!

Yes, the experience continues. I tried to get it apart while the suspension was all in pieces for fitting poly bushes, but was unsuccessful. Now armed with a hydraulic ram for for my existing hub puller, I will try again at some point! It needs doing, but I'm a little reluctant to disturb it again since the geometry is now all set perfect.

The Vette is so nearly a brilliant car, just for the sake of a few details!

I think they dealt with part of your point John by introducing the Z07 package. For those who want them the carbon ceramics are excellent when bedded in and the introduction of Performance Traction Management makes the car much more dynamic for track use. It also bumps the car onto ZR1 tyre sizes which gives you the option of Pilot Sport and Sport Cup tyres as well as any non OEM tyres. The Michelin's are superb in my experience so two great options there.

Unfortunately you will never get a manufacturer to disable ABS on any car sold for road use as it probably interferes with NCAP ratings and many other things. Airbags will be in the same boat too and I'm not aware of any other cars that are easier to disable safety systems on. The TPMS issue is a pain but again this is now a legal requirement in the US so they have to make them a permanent fixture.

Hi Mitch. Yes, points well made. I guess the air bags thing is the same for all cars now. Re the TPMS, I was talking to a Porsche GT3 driver and when he fits his non-TPS track wheels he says he gets a dashboard warning but the rest of the car still behaves itself, unlike the Vette. I think TPS is an EU requirement now too (or will be soon). I think GM could have made the Z06 more GT3-like, but I suppose that would be too niche for the US market.

I used to turn off the ABS on my old Volvo by pulling the fuse. Otherwise it was never going to stop on snow! I'm pretty sure if I pull the fuse on the Vette, all kinds of other horrible computerised consequences will result...

I'm running the Michelin PS2 ZP at present on the Z06 wheels and they are OK on track. They do overheat after a while, but its a manageable and progressive loss of grip. The old Competitive Driving mode is starting to annoy me. It really didn't like Shell hairpin at Oulton - must have been the combination of the camber and my lead foot!!

Anyway, something is presently in build which dispenses with nanny's services!

PS2 ZP's are good but all road-biased tyres will overheat in the end. They are essentially between a race wet and intermediate. The most important thing is to work out what pressure you want the tyres to stabilise at when they are warm and set them at the respective cold pressure for them to get there. I would have said anything from 37 psi onwards was probably going to damage the tyre permanently. It's at this point you probably really need the Sport Cup's. Be careful with overheated tyres though, as their effectiveness in the wet is heavily eroded once the tread blocks start to curl.

As for the Shell Oils hairpin, it can be tricky though it looks simple. People often have the habit of looking left and driving off the track or powering out too soon and discovering the tarmac is past its prime. I have always used a high line with a late apex which you can see here:-

Yes Mitch, I was getting to 35psi and thinking of letting some air out when the rain called a halt anyway. The high line at Shell works for me. Got it to hook up nicely a few times on the exit, but other times I was getting unwanted "Active Handling" interventions. Should have just turned it off completely, but the rain came before I thought of that too.

Another thing I would change - quicker steering rack please, not fond of all the arm twirling through chicanesrotate Not fond of chicanes at all really!!

Saw an ad on TV the other day for the new Cadillac which features a touch screen tablet like interface so maybe the new vette will also get this upgrade?

I have been told by people in the know that the C7 will feature the capabilities of the Cadillac User Experience(CUE). It will not be in the same physical package but you should see the main features like music air-streaming, haptic feedback, doppler weather radar, etc. It seems likely that the C7 will feature TFT display instead of gauges too.

Where do I put a deposit down Mitch? Any ideas?

Btw - latest incarnation - spot the differences...

There are others you can't see like full front and rear parking sensors - with no visable parking sensors....

You can't help yourself when there's a Vette on the drive can you Martin?

Ribbon sensors behind the bumper I presume. How are you finding them?
