Corvette: Welcome to the Cheap Seats

I have only ever driven one Corvette, and never been a passenger in one. But that was for a week earlier this year in California and it was a C6 (rental).
Yes the seats suck. And seem to be sized for short people (at just over 6'1" the top of the seat back was at my neck level which is not good.
And while I'm complaining the interior was definitely low rent. Very cheap feel.
But frankly seats can be changed and once that engine started up the first time I really didn't care about the interior look and feel. The noise, the power, the feel of the car was absolutely amazing!
Yup the seats suck. Yet every time I had to drive from the hotel to the office I seemed to take as many wrong turns as I could. The driving I had to do was about 80 miles over the week - yet I racked up 300! 220 unnecessary miles on seats that aren't that great just to continue to experience the rest of the car. Didn't regret it then and don't regret it now.
Might not be a good car (like a Porsche) but it is an amazing car!

I am yet to find a perfect car. Porsche's are far from perfect and I am still to find a 911 that feels good over 100mph as they have little no front end grip. They do however do other things very well.
The same attitude should really be applied to the Corvette. The transaxle position forced them into a corner when it came to the design of the seat and this is unfortunate. The rest of the car however has out performed GM's wildest expectations and I doubt anybody ever expected to see a C6 as how up the Ring Lap Times as the current 2012 ZR-1 now is. I don't think GM are oblivious to this as the optional Recaro's in the CTS-V are amongst the best seats I have had the privilege of in any road car and I am sure that if they could have dropped them straight into the C6 they would have done. But there is always the option of replacing them with some one piece buckets if you are serious enough.

For an every day car (which a C6 is perfectly capable of being), think the seats are fine! Yep, round corners pushing it they don't hold you, so for track they're not ideal, but I've driven from London up to Edinburgh and back over 48hrs (a good 410 miles each way) and got out each end feeling great. From cruising on the motorway to pushing it a bit harder on the highland roads, didn't have any problems with the seats! But then, I generally don't like being critical of the car, as I love it!!
I'm another who's in agreement, the seats in the C6 are probably the worst thing I've found about it.
I actually think that the bottom of the driver's seat has collapsed on my 35k mile car.....
However, as an earlier post says, when I get in it and press the loud pedal I could be sat on a milk crate for all I care!

If you fellas are concerned about 'slipping around' in the stock seats when corning fast, and don't want to replace the seats with 'buckets' - why not replace the stock inertia reel seat belts (or supplement them) with a set of quality racing harnesses - then you can tighten them up as much as you like and you won't be able to move! (its not going to do anything for the comfort issue though!)

...but never forget the enthusiasm of the passenger seat to flop forwards under braking! I've been known to belt the empty seat to keep the darned thing still.Gassing Station | Corvettes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
