How not to try and sell a Corvette to a Customer!

Ring Ring

Dealer- Hello

Customer- Hi looking at the C5 you are selling you was going to fax me a copy of the V5 & service book over last week I have asked you twice now.

Dealer- Yes my fax is broken just send me your e-mail and I will try and do it later

Customer- I would like to arrange an inspection by my Service guy in Surrey who I trust to look it over.

Dealer- After asking who it was replied with No not happy with that as he found a fault with the last car I took to him, the customer did buy it but it was hassle for me. And this is all too much hassle!

The phone is then put down…..

Ring Ring-

Customer- Did you just put the phone down on me?

Dealer- Yes this is all too much hassle to sell this car with an Inspection and I have a man from France who may want it next month?

Customer- You have had it for 8 months already what would you take with No PX and cash buyer?

Dealer- No not happy selling it to you as you want money off and to get it inspected too!

Customer- I am in the trade and for a 13 year old car I would like an Inspection as these are being sold with not warranty..

Dealer- No I’m not selling it to you as this is too much hassle and I not interested anymore.

Customer- Ok If I come to you on Friday

Dealer- No don’t want to sell it to you now, I will wait for the French guy next month goodbye!!!

I am the inconsiderate/pain in the a*** customer above who consumed the dealer's precious time (time is money) in asking for a pre-purchase inspection. On the positive side, when I went to view the car (unlike Dr Foster) there were no rain showers or puddles about. Car checked out fine, just a small matter of the headlights pointing the wrong way.

I bought my C6 from said dealer last year. And to say his sales patter is a bit strange is an understatment. I felt him frustrating to deal with. I love the car. But i dont think i would buy another from him again.

Isn't it strange that there's always someone else who wants a car that you are interested in?

Do these people think we were born yesterday?

By the sound of it the dealer would rather hang on to it....

The guy you are talking about has a weird attitude towards business and I thought he was abrupt and ignorant, why not deal with a couple of good ones that I have dealt with - Chris Graham sportscars or Mitch and Nigel at Baur Millet.

A dealer like the one you are talking about may not be a nightmare but he is definitely a bad Dream.

Just my opinion of course.
