Hi guys.

Finally (with advice and recommendations of ROSCOBBC) I have had the big block rebuilt by John Sleath. Dyno sheet attached - roughly 520 horses.

Going to keep the stock manifolds, which may restrict breathing, but still guessing it will be a bit of a monster.

Pics of car and graph below. Hope the gearbox holds together.

James - I don't think I have ever seen a '68 which still has the silver coloured 'highlighting' on the edge of the grille bars - most have been polished off - is your grille original or replacement?

looks like a torque monster.
I take it you didnt want to cam it up, but keep it aimed at a street cruiser?

Hi, yes, keep it driveable and not a drag machine, but hopefully ought still to be quick.

Ross, we painted those with silver paint! It rubs off after about a year and then me/my father does it again!

Yes - nice spot- car will hopefully get up there a lot easier next time - was running rich and the lean air didn't help- I recon 5 to the gallon going up the hill.

It'll be interesting James to see where your mpg figures are now - you've certainly got the power and torque, John said you had a fairly 'stiff' cam. BTW I can see why you want to keep it stock. Are you using it in the UK?

Yes- cam is stiffer than before. Its now ok over 1500rpm - so it's a little bit less if a towing machine. Power is silly and the clutch is slipping before full power is reached. Any suggestions for a bullet proof clutch would be welcomed!

On fuel economy john rejetted the carb to lean it out but the cam is bigger now. Over all I reckon it's doing about 13 to the gallon. I think a gear change to a 3.08 would be an idea...

I can 'squeeze' 15mpg at a 'legalish' 70 mph cruise - this equates to approx.2600 rpm - I used a CenterForce Dual Friction clutch and a new Center Force flywheel. Clutch is very good - very progressive and less pedal weight than than other clutches. Its been in three years now!
