Hi All
won't go into full story here as its quite long!! :-)

Basically I have a European spec Car, the Key fob never worked when I got the cat 4 months ago and is dead completely.... looked at replacements, whicch are quite pricy, but also a total closure kit as well, but just found out from guy in the states he doesn't do kits for Euro cars, I only want the key fob for this function, as due to tight squeeze in the garage, and the fact the windows curve in towards you, it has to be down a bit to get out! so want to then close them when out of the car..
So rather than spend money and ship from the states where there is a bit of question of whether everything will actually work or not!.... is there an after market system that would work with the car in the UK? has anybody else done this? is it some thing that any Alarm company could fit?
I don't really want an alaram, as my battery goes flat quite often due to non use, and don't want alarm going off when this happnes, or an Immobilised vehicle etc

any thought?

thanks

No idea about the fobs beyond the fact I know radio frequencies differ between US and Euro locking systems.

For your window, couldn't you use a stick with a rubber cap on the end to press the "window up" switch on the door after you were out of the car? Then remove stick and close door.

Re, Your key Fob...you've obviously replaced the battery but have you tried re-programming it to see if you can get it to work? Programming instructions can be found in your owners manual. If you haven't got your manual you can download one from here, www.gmpartshouse.com/downloads.php The instructions for 'matching transmitter to your vehicle' is usually in the section 'features and controls'.

If you cannot get it to work I really would advise buying a replacement as once you've got a working key fob you can then use it to fully control your windows after the addition of a 'window valet' which you can fit in seconds as it simply plugs into your OBD-II diagnostic port.

If you buy items from one of the supporting vendors on www.corvetteforum.com and use your credit card or paypal to pay you should have no worries whatsover regarding your overseas purchase.

Re, your flat battery issues...you really should check to see if you have an unwanted current drain on your battery or a faulty alternator. If you haven't got access to a mains supply to fit a trickle charger you can also buy solar chargers which will help to maintain your battery voltage. I've actually installed an outside socket next to the window of my car so I can easily hook up a trickle charger through the window which I then plug into my cigar lighter socket.

Is the car a Euro car or a UK supplied car as the UK took away the GM fobs and had to be supplied with Thatcham one alarm which was supplied by a firm called Lite on, i think they have since gone bust. This system even came with a GM guide on how to use it. They were the same fobs as a toad system. So you did not have the GM lock/unlock and panic button on all cars of that era.

The earliest Euro cars didn't have a fob at all, as I recall well with my father's 1997 Fairway Green car.....

99MY cars were all Euro Type Approved and got the alarms. The Euro cars before that were on a different programme but it all evades me now. They were all type approved with the Magnesium wheels too, hence why they all had them. They were damn light though!

I think UK started selling them in May 98 and anything before that had just been brought over from Europe.
