Nige, just been watching a VW restoration programme on Freeview Quest and seen your Z06 BlO3 JOB in the Race Shack workshop. They even gave it a rev for the cameras.

What work did they carry out for you?

Hi Cliffy,

They were doing a lot on the car back then, installing the rollcage, fabricating the fuel cell and trunk. Then Connor sold the business to this guy called Ben who never seemed to be able to get anything done so when the business inevitably went belly up I had to go and collect the car in a completely dis-assembled state. I then spent the first half of this year building the car back up again i.e. installing the custom fuel system, re-installing the brake lines, wiring in the fuel pumps, battery, tranny cooler pump etc. I had to make and fit all the fuel lines, tranny cooler lines, do all the routing for the air intakes from the intercooler to the turbos. I also had to get gaskets made for the turbos, re-finish the turbos as Raceshack had lost some of the bits (I had boxes of bits when I went to collect the car but still some of the tiny bits got lost).

Anyway the car is basically back together and currently it is at Powerstation in Tewkesbury as they are storing it for me and also they were doing all of the Motec wiring as they are proper Motec approved installers not like the two previous companies that have fk'd the wiring up in the car.

Hopefully in 2012 I will get the car back and can then get it shipped to the USA so I can complete the fabrication work I need to do to get it up and running. For example I need to drop the sump off of the car as the dipstick tube end broke off and then disappeared into the hole and into the sump I need to then also get a new tube and fit this. The problem with this is it a major P.I.T.A. to remove the sump as to do it with the dry sump set up I have to drop the front sub-frame to get it off and also remove a whole load of other pipes etc.
I also need to arrange shipping for the car along with all of my tools in a container and then arrange to go to the East Coast (approx 1,000 mile trip) with a trailer (which I don't have) to go an collect the car and bring it back to a garage (I don't have) as I don't have a house yet as we are renting and although it has a double garage I already have the ZR1 in it and someone wants to put a Viper in the other space....... smile

So the next part of the cunning plan is to find a house with enough garages or enough space for more garages smile

Alright Nige, I should have checked the date on the programmes, I got into them so much I didn't bother looking. An ideal way of winding down after Christmas.

Sorry to hear you still had some woes with the companies working on your car, hopefully once you get it back to your side of the pond you can sort it out once and for all, what with the amount of specialists over there.

Except for a couple of hiccups, mine is doing well since the bigger valves and more radical gas flowed top end was fitted a few years back. Along with the chip from Haibeck, that now guarentees the right amount of fuel, the engine runs very well.

I was looking to sell it recently, however the right offers didn't follow. No surprise in these finacially challenging times, so she's staying put and I'll set about a small list of annual jobs in the spring, including getting hold of some new coil-overs. The ones I have presently were originally on Fred Flinstone's car and have no adjustment, other than ride height and are a bit severe on the back.

Besides I've taxed and insured it for another year.

If you need any help this side getting your bits together, depending on what's going on with work, I may be able to assist. Also I work for a haulage company around the Tilbury/ Purfleet area and might be able to see if I can help with prices for container shipping.

Cool, thanks Cliffy, likewise if you need parts from the USA you can get them shipped to my address although I did this for a friend before Xmas and just for some cake boxes (don't ask) it was over $100 to ship them to the UK.

Tell me about it! Shipping is expensive, sent a carb to the U.S. to be restored and it cost me £65 from this side. Then paid a similar amount for the return.

Can always save on taxes if things are sent 'Gifts' IIRC wink
