Hi all.

Just wanted to check into a new section of PH for me.

I've just bitten the bullet and treated myself to a C6

Living in Dubai sadly she's come to me with the dreaded "heat soak" issue, so a new fusebox is needed.... if anyone should have a C6 fusebox lying about......... lol

Anyway, I'm having a blast with the car.

Hi Derek,

Welcome to the wonderful Corvette world, I wished we had some heat soak over here.

Hi Derek,

Welcome to the world of Vettes. What problem are you having with the car feel free to PM me. I'm also in Dubai and we have quite a large club here with some good info on our cars.

If your having a connector problem before the fuse box the best thing to do is cut it off and solder the cables together. We had to do that on a couple of areas in my loom but only as I'd uprated the car and the heat was melting the connectors.

Let me know if you need any help.

Looks nice, The car has the euro spec headlamp washers but no side repeaters on the wings. How many specs must GM have to build, US spec, Euro Spec etc..

I'm sure you will love it. Are their many Corvettes in Dubai?

The specs on the car are downright odd to be honest... it's a GCC spec car, meaning it was built in KY and then shipped and sold new here.

I used a US forum to trace all the history and option codes on the car and it's got a reasonable spec, Z51 pack, uprated oil cooler, no heated seats or nav.
It also has an incredibly annoying bonging noise if you exceed 120kph!!

The odd thing is that I can't configure any of the car's options (I get an "options unavailable" message if I press the button)

There's a reasonable number of 'Vettes here, they mainly seem to be Z06 models though, to find a basic C6 with a manual box here wasn't easy as those that are here are usually automatic.
Many of the cars here are also US imports and that can be dodgy ground as I very nearly found to my cost (I was about to buy a Dodge Viper, ran a carfax check on it and discovered it was a US write-off that had been bought at auction, shipped here, bodged back together and then sold)

Anyway, the car's lovely to drive, the fuel here's cheap and I'm having a blast so far.... once I've sorted the issue with the lights out I'll be good to go.

As a nice aside, they're also a lot cheaper here than the UK!

Good to see you've finally bought a proper car smile

All Corvettes for the last 30 years have been built in Bowling Green, Kentucky so no surprise there. The bonging about 120kph sounds like it has a speed warning set up but to be honest don't remember how you can remove this. Regarding the options not available I suspect your key fob is not sync'd with the car i.e. it is not recognised as key 1 or key 2 (the fob as a small number written on on the plastic end).
If it is an aftermarket key or not key 1 or 2 the options are not available as you can have many fobs configured for the car but it must be fobs 1 or 2 for the options to be available. I found this out to my cost on a trip to Europe when I went into change the settings from miles to Km and found I couldn't as I picked up one of the fobs other than 1 or 2 before leaving home!

If you have more than one fob for the car find the ones with the number on them and then check to see if you get the options.

Nigel is likely correct regarding the fobs. Another possibility is that if fobs for the car have been lost, it has had additional fobs programmed in place without erasing the lost fobs.

The speed warning at 120kph is, I believe, a legal requirement in the UAE and I am not aware of much you can do about it.

Thanks guys... the car is actually in the main dealer here at the moment to sort the issue with the heat soak out once and for all.

I've asked them to re-code the existing fob to be fob 1 and also to provide me with another fob to be a spare.

Apart from the heat issue and the fact that it's far far too quiet I'm loving the car, it's great to have something with some power again, and the weather here being so nice now it's lovely with the roof off.

In all, I'm glad I bought it (the Viper would possibly have been more fun, but definately less practical!)

A year on and I'm still loving the car.

I've driven all over the Emirates and into Oman and have added around 5,000 miles to the odo.

Still have all manner of weird electrical and traction control issues, together with a distinct unwillingness to start, but once she's running then I forgive all that.

I had thoughts of replacing her a couple of months ago, but the 360 I went to see was a dog so I'm staying in the 'Vette fold for another year!

If you ever feel like an epic roadtrip to the awefully straight (but relatively camera free) roads of Qatar give me a shout. I have an Orange Z06.

I'd be on that like a shot but unfortunately it's currently not possible to get a transit visa to travel through Saudi and I don't think it's possible to drive from the UAE to Qatar without going onto Saudi soil is it?

Oh really? That is the first I've heard about it, is there a reason why? Unfortunatly no, there is no way to transit to Qatar without hitting Saudi. I thought all you had to do was go to the saudi embassey with your registration and ID and a letter from your sponsor saying you're ok to transit.

Used to be the case until a while ago when a couple of tourists got shot in Saudi... they stopped issuing tourist visas at that point.

You don't need a tourist visa, you get a transit visa, they are still being issued, had someone I know do it 2 weeks ago.

In that case, bring it on, I love a good road trip.

I have family visiting Q1 next year, but late April sounds ideal for a road trip.
