Anyone know of a C5 convertible for sale, preferably manual? I am in Surrey, but willing to travel a reasonable distance for the right car.

Did you spot this one - it's a manual? Would be a nice "get to know the car" drive home from Essex (I got mine from Cheshire, it was pregnant by the time I got home smile ).

I am afraid that I do not know the car, but they seem to be quite few and far between at the moment, so your options could be limited.

Thanks for looking, I did go to see that one. A nice straight looking car, but the stripes were no to my taste at all. Sure you could take them off, but what do they cover and were they cut on the car which might leave razor marks in the paint? There was also a noise which I could not identify from the engine. I decided to give it a miss, but that doesn't mean that it's a bad car, just my choice. The search continues

Hi Brett, Yep, I want back in the fold. I would love to get another manual C5 vert like my last, but having driven Mark Harmans auto recently, I could go down the auto route at a push. Been looking since february for a manual. There have been plenty of autos that I have let go by (kicking myself now) but I will get one when the right one shows up. Meanwhile I take the fun from riding my ZZR1400 around, lol. Be nice to catch up again one day. Take care and best regards to you and Karenza

Having had the 2004 CE convertible in auto, I am sure the manual has to be much better.
perhaps I was expecting more, may be the Corvette was a big let down.
Any way, if I was going to buy another, it wouldn't be the auto.
Sure it was quick, but not as quick as I expected.
Sold it the following summer.

Hope you found something much quicker to move on to. Now what's in that profile?

I have a manual and it is fine. Test drove an auto first and hated it, but then again I hate all autos.

Speaking to others who have had auto (for longer than my test drive) and manual, they also tend to say that the manual is a better driver's car - unless you are stuck in traffic in a major city all the time with a dead clutch foot. Chugging at 1350 or so revs in 6th at the legal motorway limit helps fuel consumption too, or (not me of course officer), 2000 revs at a ton... so I am told...

Nipping through the lanes in a manual = roar, great overrun popping and banging soundtrack with no nasty slurs on gearchanges. But the change is undeniably heavy (I have a short shifter), and the synchro can be a bit slow for me at times when pressing on (even on my new box), but not as slow as the active handling, so it isn't too bad.

I guess that the later performance Vettes all being manual may also be a clue. Now if they did a sequential box... hmm.

I wanted to keep it a secret Brett, but yes I have left a deposit on a beautiful low mileage example. I would have it now, but just got out yesterday from an operation so gonna wait for about a week (if I can). All will be revealed when I am seen behind the wheel of it, bit like you really, lol

That's fantastic news. I look forward to seeing both you and it. Hopefully you'll have better luck than me with the weather.

Collected the Vette today, drove it 150 miles and got out feeling fresh. God it feels good to be back in one again. Thanks to all who took an interest in this thread and see some of you soon
