Will the C6/C7 live up to the new 911 and Jag C-X 16?
Discussion
Was looking through the press at all the new cars and prototypes coming out at Frankfurt this year, and wondered whether others also felt that Corvette was going to find it even harder to increase sales within the UK (if they wanted to...) over the coming years. Not fussed at all about the 911 and never will be, but the advent of the new 2-seater Jag puts a spanner in the works. Supercharged V8 + Hybrid, and I'm sure a pretty decent exhaust note, could maybe tempt some Corvette drivers (especially if the estimated prices are to be believed against the current C6 prices).
Thoughts?!
Oh, and anyone know if there's more news on what the C7 will be/look like/powered by etc etc etc...

Ah, good spot on V8 vs. V6. On the cost front, they're saying the C-X-16 is going to be starting at around 60K (euro) which is comparable to the current C6 if memory serves here in the UK. Agree that they're quite different cars, but Jags are getting popular out in the states and this could be seen as another contender alongside the current and new XK. Costs in the US though will I'm sure be above a 'vette.
Will be interesting to see what Chev. do with the C7 to keep it up with European contenders, if they feel they have to.
Can't beat the exclusivity (and the fact that it's a 'vette) over here though.

Agreed. If it's just another update of the ageing C5 architecture they will have to come up something pretty fancy in the total package - although I guess they're comparatively cheaper in USA than in Europe. What made the C5 competitive back in the 1990s was IMO its clean sheet design. But that's nearly 15 years ago!I have to say I was dissapointed with the C7 options as Porsche are defo coming up with some great cars that are well in front of the Z's. Jag mmmm maybe not. I love Jags but as a nice daily drive not something that will compare with the Z for the fun days or track.
Chevy should have given the C7 at least a small HP increase. Light weight carbon parts, carbon brake options etc are old news and not making a massive difference as most of the other makers have been offering these before even the ZR1 came along. Hopefully Chevy will do something for the next release.

I only known sketchy details apart from what is supposed to be the standard C7 engine. They haven't decided on a finalised power output that I know of but I would suggest LS7 is unlikely to continue into the C7. There is more work going into the LS9/LSA powertrain and think it would be more likely that a Z06 replacement will be supercharged and circa 550Bhp.
So speaking of the C7,
here are some spy-shots of what looks to be a C7 mule in C6 clothing.

Thoughts on the elongated wheel base and blocked off exhaust? Perhaps this is a way to muffle the powerplant exhaust tone?

The longer wheelbase is pretty obvious and hard to hide. It may be that the overall length remains roughly the same in which case you can change the cars turn front end dynamic by moving the front wheels in relation to the engine. The closer the wheels get to the front the sharper and crispier it will feel. Exhaust would suggest it will be a two-pipe affair as they will powertrain testing in that mule so balancing exhaust back pressure is an important part of that. Some of the talk on powerplants is incorrect, though I am not saying that GM is not designing a V6 turbo. I doubt you will see an aluminium chassis as the article suggests. The aluminium chassis was, as far as I was aware, developed so that the C6R's could use it. It will have been a costly R&D exercise to produce. It's going to be a really long two years........
