Ok, so try these:



$70k to $20k in slavage in about 100 yards through Eau Rouge.

I suspect it was towed well away from the track for an "accident on the public highway".

I think $20k is quite optimistic..... That's a superb full front impact and looks like it was in the tyres. Did it happen on the run up to Eau Rouge by any chance?

Yes, he lost it over the crest at Eau Rouge. Under the bonnet (or should I call that hood) the engine was also dropped about 4" at the rear. Having looked at some chassis photos, those are some mightly big box sections to bend, although there is not much trangulation at the firewall to keep things straight. But then, maybe thats a good energy absorbing deformation.

That's a 'crumple zone' in action. Fortifying that area of the chassis wouldn't do anyone any good. If you're in an impact that heavy you've got to accept that the car is going to be forfeit. Pretty typical for people who haven't got a clue what they're doing and he was probably giving it full chat on road rubber.
