I have searched for a good one but to no avail. I just want to know the issues before I jump in. Someone told me there are issues with the magnesium roof on earlier cars? Are they bomb-proof otherwise?

Try and get an 08 model year onwards and if possible a euro spec car. Better gearbox and nicer interior on the 2008. Stay away from the grey imports as you never know waat the history is on them, Even with a Carfax report.

Interestingly I have now had a couple of people buy C6 Z06's and send them to for fettling, having owned 6 of them personally and driven considerably more than that. The last one that was sent to me ended up having over £5,000 spent on it to cover off issues such as a leaking oil cooler, wrecked LH track rod, broken rocker arm, shot discs and pads all the way round and a malfunctioning alternator. Not to mention perished tyres. The Z06 is faster and more potent than any previous Corvette and as a result requires greater care and maintenance than a C5 which many consider just needs oil changes and runs forever. Tyres are a major as the cars performance hinges on them and after 6,000 miles they are no longer giving their best, particularly the rears. Tread depth is not the primary factor.

Whilst I understand Robs point about 08 cars and onwards you'll struggle to find one as they were the first cars to be taken abroad.

As for the traders you are questioning, if you read the advert the cars are not here bit ring purchased to order. Off the back of the points I've raised above it would be a brave man who bought a C6 Z06 from the U.S. unseen.

Yes, I guess it would defy physics for a car so fast not to suffer serious wear and tear if neglected in any way. I guess I'm going to have to trust my instincts that whatever car I find has been properly maintained. This one looks nice, despite being an earlier car (never seen a 2008 onwards car - could wait my whole life for one of those to turn up!):

Looks like they'll offer me a fair price on my 996TT also...

Hey mitch, where are you based and do you do PPIs???

I got ripped off by a dealer on here who has big nice looking ad's and sold me a c6 which was a total loss in the us. Has a lot of heated conversations as he wouldn't take it back and I had to trade it cheap and only got a small part of my loss back. Felt sick as a traded in my srt-10 which I had cherished from new and loved.
Didn't take any chances and bought a z06 in august 07 but new this time. Absolutely epic car you won't regret it.
