Guys,

Can you legally RAFFLE off your car privately?

As in I go around with a little raffle ticket book with 200 tickets, once they are all sold I do a draw and pull out the winnning tickets.

I want £2000 for my car, 200 people buy a £10 ticket, then someone has bought my car for a MERE £10.

Sounds easy but is it legal doing it on your own or not?

Thanks!

Sounds awesome, but there's probably some kind of implication. It's technically gambling, right? scratchchin

You'd need a gambling licence i would imagine unless it was for charity?

You need a licence ad it has to all user a certain amount £££

You are well under that amount but you will still need a licence

Nope, not for charity, all for myself, lol

And I've already got quite a few people keen but don't want to bother unless it's legal.

Might as well just stick it on eBay if it's not, hahaha

Who's going to buy a ten quid ticket for a 2 grand car?
Herein lies the problem, you will be lucky if 20 people buy tickets, and you will end up selling your car for £200.

£1 a ticket with a viral campaign online (you'll need to be creative and do something different) and you'll be in with a shout.

£10? Nah.

Your "raffle" is a lottery under http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2005/19/notes/... . You need to be licensed as a promoter.

I’ve checked with the gambling commissions website and a simple Google of this subject for those people who have given this person asking the question, the wrong information. The truth is that the gambling commission do not, I repeat, do not consider this to be gambling.

The only time someone would be getting into trouble for this, is if they rigged the competition, just like father ted did when trying to raffle off a car, only to try and keep it and give it back to the priest they borrowed it from! ??
He's probably sold it by now.

How gullible would you have to be to trust that Sharon raffling off her A4 was doing it legitimately.

Well, that’s a yawn a minute. Basically, don’t bother! I wonder if the football sweep in the pub is legal ( if anyone cares,)

There's a certain type of person that creates these raffles - wide boys, old out year 'and, who very often don't believe the rules apply to them. Most raffles will have T&Cs that are a stretch - if the raffle only sells 50% then only x amount will be offered in lieu of the prize, or only x percent will be returned etc.

Even competitions can be fixed. Anyone remember the Irish jewellers where a relative of the jeweller won the competition?

So are all the competitions on Facebook legal? They all seem to have a simple question to answer, is this to get round regulations?

I know someone who’s been doing this for years so not a scam. Pretty sure they would make a point of keeping within the law.

Was their first raffle many years ago? Perhaps around 13 years ago?

I think if you put a question in the raffle or make it a game of skill like BOTB then it legitimises the raffle.
