Morning everyone!

Just got home from a trip to Birmingham with a friend in his car, driving along Broad St, and a police officer comes up to the window and says if you continue "driving in an anti-social manner", he will give us a ticket. The car is generally loud(ish) when cruising, (Literally one or two revs at peoples requests!) but is that really anti social behaviour? On a busy street full of nightclubs? It was about 00:30 and it was absolutely rammed and of course loud anyway.

Just wondered if that was possible to get a ticket just for that, given the circumstances!
What's everyone's thoughts?

Revving your engine is anti-social behaviour.

Looks like you answered your own question. Anywhere that's that rammed there's bound to be plod about so best keep a low profile.

No residental houses or flats within a small radius of the incident? at all? Loud exhaust notes carry a long way.

You've not been down broad street have you. I was there last night, wall to wall noise from all the bars and clubs. Surprised they could hear the car over all that!

Especially when the delusional driver's revving the nuts off it thinking his car sounds like an F1 car!

"The car is generally loud and I revved the engine once or twice. It was about 00:30."

Paraphrased.

You don't consider that anti social?

I don't think "well everyone else was being noisy" is a statutory defence.

So you revved a car, in a crowded public area, where you could be almost certain that even if you could not see the police, they could almost certainly see and hear you? I'm surprised they told you to pack it in, where you trying to impress the ladies with your raucous exhaust note?

Not only was it a stupid thing to do given the situation, revving your car outside a night club is about the saddest and chavviest thing imaginable.

Hanging around in Broad Street at gone midnight on Saturnday night and revving a car that has been modified to make more ose than necessary is done purely to attract attention. Well done, you got the attention!

I presume that when you got home in a resendtial area between 00:30 and 04:00 you have some means of making the quiet as the proverbial church mouse so as not to disturbe your neighbours?

+1

Could only have been more chavvy if he'd have been shouting "BRAP BRAP BRRRRAP" out of the window.

Broad Street after midnight - well you were an easier target than the blatant drug dealers, the drunk and disorderly groups of yobs.

But if you rev a modified car late at night in an area full of police what do you expect. There are plenty op residential apartments closeby too(I built 250 of them) and loud exhaust noise does carry.

Having said that, IMO you were probably less anti social than I am starting the Tuscan up in my quiet village, on the plus side my nearest plod is 15 miles away

Interesting replies! smile

@ above poster, I didn't think the car was relevant, but it's an R8.

I see what people mean by exhaust notes carrying over though to be fair, didn't mean to offend anyone, just wanted to see what people thought! smile

What point is there to revving the engine? to make lots of noise. Noise is generally a nuisance, especially after midnight.

When I was driving a car with a straight through exhaust as a daily drive I used to coast down my quiet road with the engine off if I was out late.

Which of your fire breathing beasts were you revving?

The Audi A4 Cabriolet 2008 or the Renault Megane 2006??
