Speed Cameras Renamed

The Government is to waste thousands of pounds in an exercise in political spin by renaming speed cameras as 'safety' cameras. The term is already in use in some places but there's a new internal process being worked on to ensure that all Government and police literature including websites and policy documents are altered to use the term.

So does that mean they're also going to have to change their slogan to "Safety Kills"?

What a load of pish and tish.

And another thing. If a Speed camera is actually a safety camera, where is this going to stop?
Picture the scene on the M11 in 3 years time...

Safety Officer: "Afternoon, sir. Do you know how fast you were driving just then, there is a 30mph safety limit on this motorway, you know."

Me: "Sorry officer, I don't know how fast I was driving. My EU approved Safetyometer (TM) reads 'Danger' at anything greater than 0mph"

Pah!

I do my best to refer to them as "Road Tax Cameras" at every available opportunity.

But how does this new device measure the level of safety if you drive past at 150mph?

I would like to see the calibration certificate for that!

Imagine the NIP . . . would it need to show an photo of you power sliding through the measurement lines to prove your excessive absence of safety?

Surely you would only need to prove that you were driving 'safely' albeit in excess of the posted speed limit and your conviction would be unsafe!

Not totally related, but just goes to show what excessive spin can do... apparently only 30% of people beleive B Liar and his cronies are trustworthy, compared with almost 80% a year ago...

And another thing...where can I get some stickers to put over the "Polce Enforcement Camera" signs to read "Government Revenue Cameras". Only take about 2 mins to slap em on, soon get the message across..... any volunteers?? And one to put over that picture of a camera, to replace it with £...

This scares the s**t out me actually. The Herr Blair Bunch spin machine will have those of us who dare to question the wisdom of 'safety' cameras branded as irresponsible, dangerous sociopaths before you know it. Once the Great Unwashed have finished absorbing this crap they'll be baying for our blood.

They've already started with the "more in sorrow than anger" bit, shaking their heads sadly and saying how people who vandalise 'safety' cameras are putting lives at risk. It won't stop there, before you can say Gatsonides there'll be vigilantes trying to protect their dear little kiddies from nasty motorists in their 'powerful' cars (just look at the BBC reports of the poor kid who got squished the other week)

BLiar himself will use his best hangdog expression, wring his hands and trot out his brat, telling us how as a parent he knows how we all feel and how 'safety' cameras are the only way we'll stop those sadistic, murderous, child-molesting b@stards from rogering our children to death, just to satisfy their evil, perverted desires, with their 'powerful' motor cars.

Mark my words, this is a black day for freedom. If we complain that we have rights they'll be right back wailing "what rights did that poor, innocent, defenceless child have when you crushed the life out of her with your 'powerful' motor car?" If you suggest that she never had the right to wander around unescorted in the middle of a dual cariageway you'll be ostracised for being a callous, unfeeling monster. "she was only a child, how can you say that you callous, unfeeling monster" I can hear it now.

If we complain that we're being unfairly persecuted, they'll pin everything from the Black Death to the collapse of the NHS via the Holocaust and Third World debt on 'powerful' motor cars. Mole Valley TVR will look like an army base in Ulster before the decade is out.

ps If you want to live forever all you have to do is be a total c**t. Have you EVER heard on the news when someone has died "well, actually he was a miserable t**t and I'm glad he got wasted"?

Blimey - I didn't realise how much Gatso vandalisation was going on. Although the site is Staffs based I've seen similar examples elesewhere including the A420 NE of Swindon.

These Revenue Cameras get on my Ti*s!

I am all in favour of speed cameras in built up towns where pedestrains roam! They should all be bright yellow so that it slows the traffic not hiden to make money. Tony Blair you have lost my vote next election!

The way they hide them on big open dual carriageways in disgraceful!

Will this do? There's a local signmaking outfit that might be able to do the necessary on vinyl.

hmmm, I'd buy a set of stickers like that...

Actually, Ted, I'd buy a PH sun-screen as well.. that would be most cool, even if it did look a tad max-powerish.

This, from the vandalised gatso site is telling:

"There are a few cameras in Plymouth which have been painted with bright stripes to make them more obvious. Accidents dropped by 43% as a result. "

Yet they keep hiding grey ones. I wonder why?

Interesting how much public trust has dropped in Tone & his crones, see a post above. As stated, too much spin (mistyped that as "sin" at first, hmmm), people stop trusting. So I suspect - and hope - that people will feel the same about calling revenue/speed cameras "safety cameras".

What are they going to do, take photographs of you driving dangerously?

They could justify calling red light jumping cameras "safety cameras". No quarrel with those.

John.
