Just wanted some reassurance, We had a lovely letter from highview parking ltd, demanding £50 or £75 if my payments late, some great photographs of my car because I overstayed 20 mins in my local carpark. We have been parking in there for over 3 years (supporting our local shops) sometimes for hours on end and this has never happened before. I have read many other posts and they all say don't pay, don't write to them etc. How many letters will they send? how long until they give up? scardy cat I know.....

Just ignore. It doesn't how many letters they write, they aren't worth the paper they're written on smile

I normally regard parking companies as scum on earth, but you have admitted that you were indeed a significant amount of time over, not just a couple of minutes.

I'd say the decent thing to do would be pay and be more careful in future re your timings.

Pay £50 for overstaying by 20mins? You must be joking.

I reckon Honest John in the Telegraph has the right idea. He says to send them a tenner (I'd send a fiver!), and say that you consider that debt for the breach of conditions to be paid in full, and if you want more then we'll be seeing you in court.

What?!?! I hate this kind of tosh! Why should the OP pay them £50? Tell you what - I'll stick a meaningless invoice on your car demanding £100 because I find the colour offensive. You going to pay it, and be more careful in future re your dodgy colour taste? Thought not.

"Decent thing" to do?!?! Do you reckon the people that own the parking company are "decent"? Or some get rich quick pond-life who if they weren't intimidating motorists would probably be in the doorstep loan business?

It's a private company, the OP has broken no law.

The most the parking company has the right to is to be compensated for it's loss, so if the parking was £1/hour then they are entitled to 33.333... pence (admin fees can't be included).

OP: ignore it. They'll go on and on and on for a few months and then go away. Do not respond (this is important). Don't try anything silly like their "appeals procedure". Leave paying these things to mugs or the easily intimidated.

This is a civil matter. The company need to prove who was driving at the time the car was parked (as well as proving that they have actualy sustained a loss) to have any chance of recovery. You are under no obligation to tell them.

In short - I woul file under "B" for bin and treat any further letters accordingly.

And another thing - I'd suggest editing the title of this thread and various other things on your profile that indicate who you are and who the parking company concerned are.

The whole thing has just made me feel sick and if money were no object I might have paid it! There has not been any enforcement of any parking restrictions in this carpark for the last 4 years or I would not have been late.

Was it a council car park or a privately run one?

If it is one owned by the council but operated by this company you will need to check the Traffic Regulation Order.

The difference is, failure to pay a private company for parking in their car park results in letters. Failure to pay a council results in bailiffs and CCJs...

If it isn't run by the council then ask the company to prove who was driving because you don't remember who entered the contract as you, the owner, were not there when the vehicle was parked and left.

If you need help let me know

This. Responding/trying to defend yourself will be used against you.

Don't think you can change the title, but for the post: scroll to your original post, press the 'Edit' button, change as necessary [hint: 'your friend' has 'had trouble' with 'a parking company'.

HTH. Just ignore them, they can do nowt.

P.S. Stop sending kisses.

Ask the mods to change the title otherwise this thread will be on page one of Google within hours if somebody searches for the company name (such as a co. Director). Totally ignore all communications. I did this with another private parking company and received two "tickets" and two threatening letters over a 5 month period. I haven't hear from them now for 4 months.
