Can someone please tell me if it is illegal for Plod to use mobile speed cameras where there are no camera signs?

This would bring me much peace of mind...

As far as I know, they can use mobile ones wherever they want to...

You'll be lucky... handhelds can be used anywhere they like as long as they aren't hiding, twisty road etc etc..

(and I think they can hide actually...?)

so what's the bloody point in putting signs up, if they can hijack you at any point?

I see *bad* things happening..

Carl, it means that they can claim they have the signs up so it is all for safety, then hide the mobile tax collectors and get some extra cash too...

So as Nonegreen says - gun toting motorists are going to be more likely from now on. Seeing as every other decent law is being revoked, they have to hurt someone. Nice government we have.

I think they have to publish where they may be. They just cover all the bases and list everywhere. As for signs, am I right in thinking that if the local plod keeps the revenue then they have to sign post real ones but not put signs where there are none?

But what's the point of the signs, if they can do readings anywhere? it makes the signs superfluous?

The sooner Plod gets back to regular patrols, and using less spy cameras the better. We all must have noticed how the standard of driving improves in the proximity of a "traffic" car...!!

Heard a comment on the local radio the other day, some bint being interviewed about the legality of cannabis.. Her intelligent reply was "Well, everybody does it so why not legalise it" My immediate thought was, can we apply this arguement to safely travelling above of the posted speed limit (much less emotive than "speeding", dontcha think?). Now all we have to do is prove that speeding is a drug and we're sorted!
