Well I have to say my hearts pumping p*ss for Nottingham Council. From todays Torygraph, the installation of £350k's worth of digital cameras on Nottinghams ring road has resulted in only £79k worth of fines. Quoting Coucil deputy leader Brian Parbutt 'They havn't turned out to be the money spinner we expected' Stewart Thompson, head of council's road safety 'If things carry on as they are we will have to revise our plans to extend the scheme' At no point to they make a reference to the fact that the number of speeding motorists on the ring road has reduced by over 50% & therfore road safety presumably has improved by a similar factor. Now correct me if I'm mistaken but I was under the impression this was the so called reason for installing such systems The expected revenues of £2,400 per day were to go towards the instalation of further cameras not to improve safety elsewhere but to generate more revenue !! Stepping down off the soapbox, answers on a postcard please. Makes you wonder if we all managed to avoid being done for speeding how long it would take to bankrupt the government, police and various local authorities who seem to rely on the bloody things to pay half their bills

Good point I have pointed this out before, everyone stick to the limits, the government would loose a fortune, also it would produce a few interesting stats in relation to speed and accidents.

Anyone hear anything about the euro human right issue about the Nottingham speed traps, as I understand they photogragh the front of your car, therefore motorbikes can in theory get away with going through them at 120mph on the back wheel waving at the camera, doesn't seem fair to me, and seeing as there is a petrol station between some of the cameras if you nail it past one (accidently) you just pull in for a minute, as they measure time between fixed points.

Just how cynical are these people. First they insist that the cameras are not money spinning devices, that they are there to promote safety - then when they "work" and reduce the number of speeders and presumably the accident rate they are labelled as a failure. Now we see their true colours. I have to say I pissed myself laughing over this. Kind of makes me feel better about the £40/3pts I just had to fork out to Northampton, where they use a camera van disguised as a motorway maintenance vehicle in the name of safety. One large digit to the mindless anti-speed lobby.

I notice that there was no mention of a dramatic reduction in road accidents, which simply must be the case if everyone is traveling at the speed limit??

I think they dont highlight the fact that the number of accidents and the average speed has gone down because much less traffic uses the ring road now with many people avoiding it. I suspect accidents on surounding roads have actualy increased and the combined total is actualy higher as people are using less suitable roads
