New GATSO in Chelmsford
Discussion
One of the new bright yellow GATSO's has just gone up in Chelmsford, Essex. The sneaky b@st**ds have put it right behind two yellow signs, and it has very effectively made the camera virtually disappear! I thought the whole idea of hi-vis colours was to give motorists advanced warning of the things.
It's hardly surprising really as it seems that Essex police are a pretty lazy bunch, whenever you need them they usually take a couple of days to respond, too busy sitting in layby's with speed guns. Watching 5th Gear last night, Essex police issue the highest number of speeding tickets in the U.K. We have enough crime in the area as it is I just wish Essex police would spend OUR money on something more constructive other than trying to outwit the motorist.

Also note that Essex are the second biggest traffic revenue earner in the country and they know the new rules will screw them over - BY LAW they are not allowed to hide, mislead of misdirect the public when siting speed Cameras. Want to pee them off write to your local MP and tell them / ask them for the law in writing and state the offending camera - it will probably be pulled down or resited you will be surprised. (It is a more legal way than removing it with a chainsaw)
The 'hidden' yellow GATSO is in Rainsford Road (towards Writtle, past the Jeep garage about 1/3 mile on the left. I first saw it yesterday there are no road markings down yet either).
Incidentally, I good friend of mine just got caught speeding by a camera on a bridge which took a frontal photo of him, and you can clearly see my mate drinking a can of Red Bull. When he showed the photo to another friend who serves in the Met, he couldn't believe it! Apparntly for the Met to take frontal photos of someone in their car they need permission on a case by case basis even if the driver is under surveillance and a suspected drug dealer! The permission they need to take these pictures has to come from the police comissioner apparently and has to have a specific reason with name of the suspect to be watched otherwise the suspect's private space has been violated!
The world has gone mad!

So take them to court for Invasion of Privacy, HR Act. The more people that DO something when Plod breaks the law the more chance we have of them actually chasing real scum.
