These new TruVelo Speed Camera things...
Discussion
Anyone know if it is possible to tell if it zapped you from looking at it?!?!?!
I was driving along the A421 late friday night heading toward the A1, into Great Barford, bottom of the hill, over the lines, fk, doing just over 35, entered the village at 30 but just let it run down the hill using engine braking!
Anyway, i've got 11 days of baited breath!!!
Cheers
Stuart!

Probably OK at that speed, you'll know in 14 days. I don't think you can tell if it's taken a shot of you.
For those who are local to High Wycombe watch out, there's a new TruVelo going into town on the A40 just after the VW dealer by the park. I saw it this morning and was doing 38ish. Didn't look commissioned yet though (spray paint marks where they wanted to dig up road for sensors).
Now why don't the pikeys nick these things? They nick everything else. Oh,because they don't care - their cars aren't registered to them anyway ...

Trefor, I'm going to say something controversial here. I actually fully support this new camera. I live, literally within 50 yards of it and you won't believe some of the antics that the Max Power mob get up to along that stretch. The bus lane is used as a dual carriageway out of its operational hours, and I've regularly seen three cars abreast at 70/80-ish (needless to say, regulation beancans and windscreen washer lights). For those that don't know, this is a 30mph stretch, next to a park, with a large playground, several right hand turns with limited vision (including mine!), and no right turn sanctuaries (because the f*****g bus lane has taken all the space).
The real issue is that the bus lane exists in the first place - ever since it was put in there has been a marked increase in the number of accidents and road rage incidents, traffic has snarled up completely and the two or three buses an hour that use it are always almost empty anyway.
In typical fashion, the increased snarl-up that this has caused is now being used as justification for further "traffic flow management" measures. Which is why there are curretnly several sets of TTLs along the London Road - we're now getting permanent bus lanes, loads of traffic lights and probably children's playpens every 20 yards.
I've tried complaining and been treated with contempt in the local paper by the combined numptie and Blairite tosser armies. I bought this house new in 1995 and now I'm seriously thinking of moving, because it's impossible to get around thanks to these politically inspired w*****s, who I guess people actually voted for at some point. Rant (temporarily) over!

So we all know that Max Powa mob turn out on a Friday and Saturday right?? So why not have Plod with a gun and a video camera to nick `em all for undue care and attention and reckless driving etc.. and get the licenses taken away.. Why just shove a camera there ????
Mon Ami Mate - yeah, I guess you're right about the reasons for putting one there. I live up in Hazlemere (Berkeley Kingswood estate) and they all congregate at the petrol stations there in the evening.
My issue is more with the whole concept of the things - I don't like them. Esp. when I don't know if they are working (ideal for the police of course). Anyone got a good towbar before the concrete sets?
Hey, I'm on your side with regards to the bus lanes along the A40, as are most of the people that actually drive along it trying to get to work I'm sure. Bit like the A404 Hazlemere to Amersham where 4 local kids have died because they drive like arses. Now the local paper and residents want speed restrictions and/or cameras. (I have driven past this 'accident blackspot' at all speeds in all weathers and my car hasn't fallen off the road - quelle surprise).
BTW. You do realise that the camera makes an ideal drag race starting point don't you?

The A404 thing is absolutely typical - I did post a letter in the Bucks Free Press (under a nom de plume) pointing out that of the people that died there recently, the driver of the last accident has been charged with dangerous (reported by the paper, but somehow lost in the spontaneous outpouring of grief by the entire region) and the two killed before were in a clumsily max powered Orion that had no MOT or insurance and apparently fell apart half way round the bend.
I would have pointed out that there is nothing wrong with the bend at all, because I've been round it at 130-ish on the bike late at night, but this somehow didn't seem appropriate.
The new technology is bad news, but it's bound to happen. I don't mind it at all, as long as it's concentrated in built up areas. Don't want to find one springing up on any of my pet roads in the middle of nowhere though...

New speed camera aims to reduce road accidents
By staff reporter
MOTORISTS driving along London Road in High Wycombe were surprised to see a speed camera being installed.
The speed camera was put up on Thursday by The Rye and some people thought it was facing in the wrong direction as it was turned to face oncoming traffic.
But Buckinghamshire County Council highway chiefs have assured drivers the new hi-tech camera has been put up correctly.
A county council spokesman said: "It is a reversible speed camera that points both ways. It monitors speeds on both sides of the road."
Accidents involving speeding motorists prompted police and highway officers to put up the camera in the 30mph zone.
PC Andy Wayland of Amersham Traffic Police said: "The camera has been put there as so many people speed up that road.
"There have been a number of crashes on that section and all are speed related. We have found people there doing upwards of 70mph in that 30mph limit."
The county council spokesman said the camera had been put in because of an increase in the number of accidents.
He said: "This has been an area that we have had problems with in the past."
Numbers of road accidents are looked at before cameras are put up, and county council chiefs work with police to identify hot spots.

Without wishing to be pedantic, the Geodesy doesn't detect anything. It is a GPS receiver with a database of co-ordinates programmed in. When you get near one of these co-ordinates it warns you.
There's no reason why these or any cameras can't simply be added to the list of co-ordinates.

Nonegreen - I'm not planning on cutting it down because I'm actually quite happy that it's there. May prevent future need to get up in the middle of the night and extricate Max's from their mangled mobile masturbators. Sorry, gratuitous I know, but the best alliteration I could come up with under the circumstances.
The best solution would be the removal of the bus lane, because this caused the problem in the first place (effectively created a dual carriageway with people turning right from the fast lane). That's not going to happen though, thanks to our numptie tree-hugger infested local council, so this is the next best option.
It is a place where 30mph tops is a sensible speed, and for once is, I believe, likely to reduce accidents more than raise revenue.
I hope this isn't signs of the onset of middle-aged numptism!!!

Are you a numptie?
1.You are driving along the high street and you have a short sneezing fit, do you
a) Keep the vehicle straight and keep your eyes on the road as best you can
b) Keep the vehicle on the road but take your foot off the accelerator and keep your eyes on the road
c) Cry OOOOH, immediately turn left and crash into a lamp post despite the road being perfectly straight.
2. Your car is making a horrible knocking sound so you drive to the main agent to have them check it out, they report faulty crankshaft bearings and quote you a hefty repair bill, do you
a) Make a decision to trade the car or have it repaired
b) As above but go for a walk first
c) Tell the service manager he is talking bollocks and drive to Halfords where you explain the problem to the shop assistant and demand something to spray on the engine to cure the problem.
3. Driving down the high street you brake hard because the car in front stopped suddenly, there is a horrible banging noise from your car, do you
a) Realise the ABS has kicked in and keep the pressure on, looking for place to steer away from harms way
b) Increase the pressure and get ready for an impact
c) Scream OOOH, take your foot off the brake and smash into the car in front
4. The Motorway goes down to 1 lane and you sit in a jam for 4 miles do you think
a) Stephen Byers should be ritually disembowelled
b) I'm gonna call the cones hotline and give them shit
c) This is really good because it will encourage people to use public transport more and building more roads is not the answer and if the speed limit were lower we would all get along much better.
5. You have borrowed the college minibus and are up on the moors having a shag, with the windows steamed up, the police arrive and bang on the van side. Do you
a) Open the window and say "yes", reply to the following questions civilly and let them go on their way
b) As above but respond to the second question with "and you are?"
c) Panic, sit there starkers in silence and get arrested
6. You are listening to the Jimmy Young show, the topic is road rage. The lady listener is describing an incident where a man on the motorway overtook her in the outside lane, (she was in the middle lane) he then slowed and pulled in to the inside lane allowing her to re pass him, he the speeded up and overtook her again in the outside lane and repeated the process going round and round. She finally describes, tearfully the final manoeuvre as the man rammed her into the central reservation, closing with the comment "To this day I don't know what I had done to upset him". Your thoughts are
a) Oh FFS
b) "You stupid cow get off the road"
c) This man is a danger to himself and society and we should legislate to bring in very sever penalties for this kind of thing, overtaking on motorways is very dangerous and this poor lady was doing nothing wrong.
7. The oil light comes on, on your car do you
a) Stop, check the oil level and check the handbook to see if it is a pressure or level indicator,
b) Drive to the nearest service station and top up the oil
c) Ignore it because it’s a dark country road at night and you think it might be ghosts causing it
8. You are in a curry house in Welshpool, some girl comes over with a spliff and says "Heeey mate do ya wanna go on a roooaaad protest tomorrow? Do you
a) Phone the police
b) Offer her a lift in your Porsche and if she accepts drive really fast and scare the shit out of her, then leave her in the middle of nowhere
c) GO and do your bit
9. You push the clutch pedal down and it refuses, despite your best efforts to return. Do you.
a) Realise the clutch cable has snapped and call the garage
b) Put the car in first, start it on the starter and drive to the garage doing clutchless gearchanges
d) Whimper a bit and spend half an hour examining the pedal, then push the car into a position where it is blocking the road
10. You win a choice of cars in a competition the choices are
a) A Ferrari 348
b) A TVR Speed 12
c) You could donate the money to Greenpeace
Which do you pick?
If you answer Mostly a's you are fairly cool and level headed b's you da man c's You are a total F'in tosser, get a new hobby like euthanasia.
Judge for yourself
I've just thought - that new camera in High Wycombe is painted grey - no orange/yellow markings whatsoever. How does that work then? I thought Buckinghamshire were getting the revenues now. I can understand them getting away with no bright markings on existing cameras with some naff excuse, but what about new installations??
