Has anybody else driven through Takely (near Stansted airport) recently? Somebody seems to have set fire to one of the speed cameras. Obviously I cant condone criminal damage.

Seems a shame though!

yep! saw it already.
Funny enough, apart from the limit being 10mph too low, that camera isn't in too bad a place. Quite a few side roads.. the cameras I detest are the ones on 2/3 lane roads with zero turnings. Eg, North circular.

I condone it!! Best of luck to the people who did it and i hope more people do it. Had enough of these goddamn things. People are just too damn apathetic.

Yep, saw it last week and it was reported in last weeks local paper too...

I agree with Carl, though. That stretch of road is a notorious accident blackspot (a guy was killed in his McLaren F1 there a couple of years ago) and, as a deterrent, the camera was welcomed by local residents.

There is also a camera on the A14 near Bar Hill that still has visible signs of being 'medium-rare' but anyone who has been on that road in daylight during the past couple of years can testify that getting anywhere near a speed likely to set it off is almost impossible.

The guy with the McLaren was killed the other side of Great Dunmow where the speed limit is still 60. I drive thru Takely regularly and don't recall seeing accidents there.

The guy with the McLaren appeared to have a real death wish. He passed me a few times and I wasn't hanging around. We also came close to 'head on' once when he was making a particularly interesting overtaking manoeuvre on the wrong side of the road.

I noticed on the A429 between Cirencester and Stow-on-the-wold (where the wind blows cold) that there was a burnt out one there as well.

Good lads!

Matt.

There have been several accidents, including fatalities, at the Four Ashes junction over the years, but re-phasing the lights seems to have helped here.

I thought the guy with the McLaren lived between Takeley and Dunmow and was killed half mile from his house.. anyhow, once the A120 bypass is built there will be no need to drive through the village at excessive speed, will there?

hey you guys know this area? jolly good. Maybe later in summer we ought to do a meet up somewhere?

rgds, Carl.

PS, I hate cameras, just that one is less offensive than 90% of the others I've seen !!

My parents live in Coggeshall, so I fairly regularly raise my blood pressure along the A120. Godforsaken bit of road.

The Chapel Inn in Coggeshall itself is a fine pub if suggestions are needed...

I'm not so far from there. I spotted the toasted Gatso a couple of weeks ago when delivering my bike for service. I did laugh!
