I drove 130 miles down lanes yesterday from ryhll to bridgenorth, several little villages, and several straights, dotted all along were camera warnings but not one camera.

is this a little bit illegal? its certainly annoying.

It's also happened in Maldon in Essex - I keep meaning to go to the ABD site to check whether they can do this now (Essex is part of the money reaping, sorry, hypothecation study) before I get shirty with the local council.

I think they're 'allowed' to do that if they have car-mounted cameras patrolling.

Like once a year.

It means they can put the signs up.

In any case - complain about the signs... what do you think they'll do?

Take down the signs or put up a camera???

For this reason, I consider the current state of affairs the lesser of two evils..

In my experience, I think it's very rare to find *working* speed cameras on country roads.

There are usually no street lights, presumably because it is too costly to run the power cables for them.

I suspect the same argument would apply to the speed cameras, so the stick the signs up in an attempt to slow you down.

The signs are there so static temporary cameras can be set up, not to be confused with cameras that are fitted to cars. After all a fully striped up T5 should be enough warning that your speed may be measured

Here in Wales they put the signs up and then use a Transit van with photographic equipment in it to travel to the various sites. I noticed the van was signed "Road Safety Dept", and I believe it was from the local Council not Plod.
