What does plod see when you jam his laser gun?
Discussion
I was zapped for the first time last week doing 50-55 in a 40mph zone (still waiting for the inevitable thud of the envelope on the doormat). I have been considering getting an LE850 diffuser and this has made me think even more.
When I was zapped I noticed the red dot of the laser gun as it was fired which has made me wonder whether the diffuser sends back a visually detectable signal to the gun (and plod) or is it an invisible signal?
Anybody know?

The gun would show that there was a diffuser fitted and revert to a .22 mode whereupon it would automatically aim and fire a small self-guiding missile to take out the said item. Then it would re-establish the lock and do you anyway
Seriously, from the point of view of the operator, there is no way of knowing if a diffuser is fitted. The gun would just not get a lock on your car and you'd carry on on your way as though nothing had happened.
However, it could be a different story if they thought it was strange not to get a lock and stopped you to check your car. I personally have no idea what a diffuser looks like but I'm sure there are some that do..
The error codes generated when a laser gun is jammed are demonstrated here for a variety of models:

There is a model of Riegl gun which has anti-jammer capabilities (the FG21 I believe). A while ago on UK Traffic Law a correspondant wrote in claiming to have tested his Snooper SLD 920 jammer and a friend's LE850 against the Riegl. The 850 jammed the gun but the jamming signal was detected. However with the SLD 920, no such warning was generated indicating that the Snooper's technology had evolved to effectively deal with guns such as the Riegl.
UK Speedtraps offer a testing service to see if your jammer has been installed correctly:
