I've been working in Germany for some time their Autobahns do have restricted zones as a lot of you will know. My point is you can blatt down the Autobahn & purely concentrate on your driving instead of looking in every car for a dash camera in every mirror every 5 seconds. The Germans are heavy on speeders in restricted areas especially small towns.
Our 70mph limit was set well over 20 years ago and Vehicles have progressed significantly in brakes handling tyres etc. So we ought to be uping the limit some. Come across a tailback on the motorway and it usually is plod cruising in the inside lane.

Yip! Had this a couple of weeks ago. Sitting at 90 I come up against a wall of cars sitting at 70.0001mph crawling past a Police Landrover, booo. The outside lane clears for me so I cruise by at 80 for some distance, check my rear view - clear? Yes, floor it again.
I'd love to see motorway limits raised and A-roads free of cameras and cops. Have cameras and Traffic Police in towns and villages only but very strict.

This would make a great deal of sense and allow more people do travel longer distances faster. This would (I think) make people more inclined to obey 30mph limits as they can make up plenty of time on the open roads. As it all seems to make sense, it hasn't got a hope in hell of coming true.
In many of the Gassing sections, people have slated the Police for driving on a given road in excess of the speed limit. This gives rise to the debate about whether the Police are legally allowed, sufficiently trained, should use blue lights etc..... Now it seems when people encounter Police Officers obeying the limit, they're still not happy! You can't have it both ways!

I don't want it both ways. What I want is consistency. If we are scum of the earth for 44mph in a 40mph limit, the why was Y*** FEV zooming past me on the A13 today ? I was at 80mph and he had no lights etc.. on.

Well, who enjoys seeing police officers? However they respect the law they don't/never inspire confidence...
Hey, thom! I've had the odd occasion to be very glad to see some police officers. I'm not giving out details but things could have got rather nasty and they came and got me and friends out of a sticky situation. I've had a friendly attitude towards street cops ever since.
They've got a job to do. I know its frustrating when a single Motorway police car causes chaos and mayhem in its wake simply by following the speed limit - but that's hardly their fault.
If we had sensible speed limits the cops could enforce them and no-one would mind....

So why is it only people like us can see this as a viable solution? guess we are cursed with brains...
I'd love the open road to be open again. It is so annoying overtaking 40mph gramps in the NSL, only to have the evil tempered idiot tailgating me through the next village....
