Hi

Always take these things with a pince of salt - anyone else heard about this - mind you I figured if I'm poodling along at 140, then they'll have to be doing near to 200 to catch up !!

Please pass this onto whom ever you fell may benefit.

Last night a friend of mine, who is a member of the labour party, went to a seminar where the Police Chief for Thames Forrest, apparently it is part of Thames Valley and Part of Bracknell Forest, gave a talk on the menace of speeding.

During his presentation he brought up Operation Leopard which is to take place on the M4 during the later part of March through to the end of April.

Basically, the scheme is to "flood" the M4 with camera equipped unmarked police between J8 and J11. These vehicles will travel at exactly 70MPH and will take a picture of whom ever overtakes them.

These evil law breakers will then be sent a speeding ticket along with a nice picture of themselves to put on the wall.

I am glad to see that my hard earned money is being spent so wisely.

Thanks for the warning. But what did your Labour Party friend think to this?

Did this person say if they're are part of the Thames Valley 'speeding' unit. This is the unit set up by the council and funded by speeding fine revenues. Seem to recall the press asked if they had quotas - unsurprising answer...

Funny how March is the end of the fiscal.

Take it with a large dollop of salt.

Sounds like utter garbage to me but no doubt it will spread around the net like wildfire.

yo ! I'm back. Yep, totally agree Denny. I've been doing 400 mile/week to get to work now, and to make up for the f***ing roadworks, you need to do 90 odd !!

I ask you.. 10 Gatsos each way, roughly. Overkill.

Err, I'm so pleased my PC is working again, as I can't post from the office. Yet !

Carl.

I think they may well have cooked up some scheme or other, but I think "flooding" the motorway is unlikely. Unmarked cars are based at traffic garages all over the force area, which in the case of Thames Valley Police is a big one, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. I doubt it would be practical to put all the unmarked ones in one place, as each traffic garage needs to put out marked cars to deal with RTAs etc... But, for information, unmarked traffic cars in TVP tend to be Vauxhall Omegas, usually in a dark metallic hue. The 3.0L 24V ones of course!

It could, on the other hand, be a very effective scare tactic...

Spread the news, it whistles round the interweb and e-mail, and hey presto, people *expect* to see unmarked cars and so drive slower just in case that BMW 5 Series, Volvo, Omega, etc. *is* an unmarked car.

They'd probably only need one such car to make it work...

Years ago on the M1 I watched a marked car which was travelling about 70mph or so allow loads of 'nice' cars to crawl past it.. Then suddenly a decrepit looking escort tried to go past, and on came the lights... What is that all about ??
