who would we speak to regarding compensation claim...its my father and was taken to hospital via ambulance and many witnesses were on the scene. he has a flat at an age restriction flat (over 65s)and there was a sleeping policeman across the drive in entrance which he fell over.. there is no path entrance and all pedestrians have to go onto the road entrance to get in to the forecourt!!! the warden did a riddor report and a week later the speed ramp was removed, we reported to health safety but its not serious enough for them to investigate.. we have not contacted any one to date as we need to go down the right path ( no pun intended) bearing in mind the flats are all elderly people any views many thanks
Sorry to hear that your father injured himself. I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.
With respect to how you maximise the return on an unfortunate accident, I have no idea. The fact that you want to says a lot about you, and the sad sad state that our society seems to have evolved into.

Has he been injured, scarred etc? Has he endured any pain or suffering? If so he's entitled to some compensation. At his age he's not going to bounce back from any trauma in the way a 19 year old does so I hope he gets something to reflect any suffering.
You have to balance this against the hassle of pursuing any claim. Settlement could take years and insurers know this so may stall. Your claim would be against the person/firm responsible for the land the humps on. This assumes they're at fault. If the hump was well lit etc the it may have been you Dad who was careless.

Before I voice an opinion, I'd say ringing one of the plethora of no win no fee companies that advertise everywhere would probably be the answer.
As for whose responsible - either whoever owns or manages the land.
And the moral side of it? They've acknowledged theres an issue by removing the speed bump. Unless theres further things that need to be done, some would leave it at that - mistake made, acknowledged and rectified (although they won't admit blame for fear of a claim.) Some would look to get money for the old boy - as Boosted rightly points out, he won't bounce back (no pun intended) from a fall like that as easily as someone much younger.
Don't suppose you've discussed with him what he wants? It does smack slightly of dollar signs lighting up in eyes, but I've no idea how the old boy himself feels about it.

I agree with other peoples sentiments that its not the done thing to go seeking compensation because there has been an accident. It sounds like it was just that, an accident, there was no loss of earnings no real cost to anyone, just an unfortunate and upsetting accident.
I hope he recovers well and quickly, I bear no malice toward you or your family but ending our claim culture begins with you in this case, dont follow the herd and claim money for this, you can then hold your head high and say you took a stand against this creeping culture of blame for life handing you a st card once in a while.

A few different mates of mine have just made me aware of this thread via MSN, email and texts, and asked if this thread was for real, and a new absolute low for PH.
Either that, or a troll.
Nope, I reached for the netbook to type this reply & spilt hot chocolate on my lap, scalding my nads & ruining my stridesEither that, or a troll.
What can I expect?

Partly reminds of Clarkson when he was asked what would happen if one of the camera men fell over, his reply "well they'd have to get back up again".
I hope your old mans alright but compensation? If it was a man hole cover not in place i could understand. I thought it was a change to read about the bloke that helped with a rape case. He was offered i think 10k for helping but passed it on to the victim. He didn't have to but made a decision that i'm sure would make him happier than the money. Slightly off topic but i think similar principle.
I'm sure a simple warning sign would perhaps help. I'm sure you could take that upon yourself to do.
