Beware, someone at the show yesterday told me they were find £60 and given 3 points for having their window wiper washer bottle empty????

Perhaps someone can confirm if this is correct?

Depends if anything untoward happens as a direct result of the empty washer bottle;
The woman involved in this; http://www.harrogateadvertiser.net/harrogatenews/3... was successfully charged with careless driving because the washer bottle was empty.

i always carry a 1/2 litre bottle of water just in case, ok so 500ml's isn't a lot BUT its enough to get you to a garage to fill up the washer bottle completely.

Especially out here in the country, all it needs is a well aimed pigeon poo to land full in your view on the screen, on with the wipers and what do you have......... a thick white arc across the whole of your screen!!

Surely tho its routine maintenance to ensure you always have enough water in the bottle. Most modern cars have a sensor that tells you when your bottle is low, mine does and its 21yrs old!!!

The show was on private land, where, unless they've changed the law, you can do what you like. How did Plod prove the bottle was full when the vehicle left public roads?

Anyway, it's good to know they're solved all known crimes, including every piece of dropped litter, and have only empty washer bottles to deal with before achieving a perfect society.

Hmmm...I'm going to show this to certain female friends and relatives of mine who drive with empty washer bottles (amongst other things) because they see it as the responsibility of their other half to maintain their cars.

It really infuriated me when I borrowed a friend's car twice and both times the water bottle was empty when I needed to use the washers. I personally keep a 2-litre bottle of water in the boot just incase my bottle runs out...and considering that the C4 can take over a gallon of water, it'd take some doing!

Duhhhh..........and your point was?

Why are cars enforced & bikes not?...............okay, I know bikes cannot be fitted with washers for a helmet visor but does that make them any safer than a car windscreen when splattered with bugs?......I think not.

I'm not having a go at the bikers here, I ride a bike myself - I'm just wondering why there's such a law in the first place when it isn't being enforced on all road vehicles?

ETA: Does the law mention anything about dirty visors on motorcyle helmets?.....in fact, what about dirty car windscreens for that matter?

Why I always car a little 2.5 or 5 litre container in the boot of my car with screen wash and water, because I hate a dirty screen, and £30 is £30 I would rather not give the police

A detailed breakdown from the Home Office shows that the detection rate for violent crime in 2008 was the lowest since records began in 1975, when 81 per cent were solved. The figures show that only 47 per cent of 903,993 violent attacks were solved, compared to 77 per cent as recently as 1996, the year before Nu Labia came to power.

yes As do I. Old milk bottles are useful for this. Especially useful in winter when I tend to use a hell of a lot of screen wash.

Back in the day I always used to carry a top-up litre of oil and a 5 litre plastic container of water. Everybody did - for topping up the radiator, topping up the wash bottle and, of course, replacing the inevitable usage of oil. (Clearly the proper fluid is needed in the correct orifice...)

Don't bother carrying anything now. The washer fluid reservoir in my cars must hold five litres...you only use that lot up on those horrendous days in winter when they've salted and it snowed just a little and is thawing...then you can get through five litres in fifty miles on the motorway.
