Interestingly the slogan on the poster is "If only I had been concentrating a bit more". I think Bedfordshire County Council have slipped up here. Maybe deep down they know that most accidents are due to people not concentrating rather than speeding.

Completely agree with the statment, its not only speed that kills its the driver behind the wheel. speed is only one factor that contributes to the road accident.

But there have been reports around my old local force regarding speeding and laser and gasto detectors, a Quote from the report says it all "The people who use these devices are more aware of there speed and appriciate the dangers of driving at that speed."

I am not for speeding or against it but i believe that there should be some consistancy in the Prosecution. I personally can not stand people who speed in residential and areas around schools, but i do not like when Bureaucrats try to inforce these messages to people who drive on motorways and other such roads as they are reported to be among the safests roads in the country..

has anyone else got any comments on this???

Couldn't agree more,
The road past the local school is a 30 limit, at school chucking in/out times this is too fast, but at 2am 70mph is quite safe.

He was probably trying to read some distracting roadside poster, rather than concentrating on the Road.

Excessive speed only contributes to less than 5% of accidents on our roads. Driving without care or not paying attention when driving is the single biggest cause of accidents.

Lets get things straight. If we all drove under the speed limit there would only be a very small percentage decrease in accidents.

If we all drove with more care, concentrated on the job and the government put road TAX back into making roads better and better signposted we would see a huge change.

Bottom line, lets concentrate on making roads safer; rather than a small percentage of drivers who the police can fine for speeding.

"Bad news sir: thanks to your lack of concentration your girlfriend is dead and we have had to amputate both your legs."

"Good news: the man in the bed next to you wants your slippers"

Thanks, you've been a lovely audience - goodnight !
