I was out in town and saw a man being arrested by 4 policemen which is kind of normal in st helens, then about 2 minuites after this a woman walks over to one of the policemen and asks why he has been arrested, to which the policeman responds by telling her to fk off and hitting her in the chest so hard she almost fell over. She then walked away crying.

Whilst this was all happining i was stood further up the road minding my own business waiting for some friends to come out of a bar, then the policeman who had just hit the woman spots that i had been watching what had been going on and starts walking over to me. As he approaches me i said to him "seriously mate you need to cool it down or your gona get yourself into trouble" he then grabs my wrist and starts trying to twist it, at this point i asked what are you doing? i havent done anything.
Then the 3 other (younger looking) police come over and stand behind him trying to figure out what is going on.

The next thing i know this policeman drags me around the corner out of sight grabs me by the throat and throws me up against a wall, the 3 other police stood there in silence whilst the one who had me by the throat says "im gona fking mace you in the eyes". He then pulled his batton out and i thought, right im well and truly fked now.

I could see that the other police had their hands on his shoulder and arm altho not making a real effort to get him off me. At this point it started getting abit hazzy either because of the shock or because i couldnt breathe properly, but all of a sudden he let go and the 3 other police ushered him away whilst all shouting just get the fk out of here.
I then realized they had backed off because some man came over and seen what had been going on.

Whilst all of this was going on i didnt resist at all or say anything other than what have i done.
So i went straight to the police station and reported it, the whole thing should be on cctv.
The woman behind the desk logged it and gave me a reference code and said the inspector would ring me the next day. Its been 4 days now, so my question is will the police do anything or will they just pretend it never happend hoping i forget about it, also even if they do find out who the guy was its going to be his word against mine so do i stand a chance ?

All we have to do is look at the footage of the man being hit by a baton/shield that popped up a while back to get the general attitude of the knobend coppers that are 'patrolling' our streets. Unfortunately that fella died.

You did the right thing reporting it. That is disgusting.
If you don't get that phone call go back and insist on speaking to the Chief. This guy simply must be hauled up and across the coals to explain his actions.

I would have thought they have to come back to you, that's a pretty serious issue? Did you get the Plod's number?

Unfortunately it's dheads like this that get the whole police force (sorry, 'service' rolleyes) a bad name.

Follow up the complaint and make it clear that unless you have a satisfactory response within the next 24 hours you will be taking your story to your MP, the IPCC and the national press. They can then deal with the fallout.

Let's face it - you witnessed an unprovoked assault by a police officer, who then assaulted and threatened you just because you were looking in the wrong direction at the right time. Absolutely fking unacceptable.

VH will be along soon to remind us that the law is the law.

Was the officer's mouthwash working OK?

Quite an event, hopefully on CCTV but as to anything much happening apart from the usual whining about BiB bashing on PH and how the officer clearly had a traumatised childhood, forget it.

Sorry to hear of your experience all the same. Being told to fk off after asking a reasonable question or politely stating the obvious is par for the course, probably part of the training these days, but dangling of feet against a wall is a tad o.t.t. even for today's hard pressed police recruiters to aim for.

Talk to someone senior in the Police and threaten to take it to the local paper unless they treat your accusation with great importance, after those couple of incidents at the G20 (or whatever it was) in London a few months ago, im sure the seniors will do all they can to stop you going to the press.

If the local station are not responding to you then go directly to the IPCC. They will assist you in making a complaint and ensure that you are contacted by the relevant department for that force.

Someone like this is not needed.

Sorry to hear about that it seems quite unprovoked and unecessary. I have made a couple of complaints to the police. It's pretty much like every other request in the world when you ask somone to do something. The first round you go away feeling happy that something is done and they promise the world.
Then the fun beings you have to chase and chase and chase to get anything more to happen. You have to call numerous times a day and when any deadline is missed and never be fobbed off. The complaints procedure seems to follow the logic of 'if no one is really pushing it, it can't be all that important'. Essentially you have to be the one to make anything happen now or nothing ever will.

Good luck with this.

At the very best you will get an appology.

At the worst you will be arrested for perverting the course of justice or breach of the peace.

This is really disgusting behaviour by these officers (the other three should have arrested their colleague IMO). Have you not had any response from the complaint?

Phone local force switchboard. Ask for Professional Standards. Expain incident. I am sure they will be *very* interested.
