Cameras turned off in Germany
Even loose number plates could trigger cameras
Discussion
"Faith in the cameras' abilities has been rocked and around Germany they been covered up or turned off whilst the issue is addressed."
Sorry guys, a pack of lies, no cameras have be covered up or put out of use in Germany. I've double checked with Germany's largest car club the ADAC (and the local police) and they as the largest car orientated movement in Germany know nothing about this. There seems to be someone making up stories here! The very action of putting a camera out of use here would reverberate through the country like a bomb, especially if thiose useless politicians in Berlin now had less money to line their pockets with (sorry I meant redistruibute to the poor)......

Thanks John - great service provided by a PistonHeads reader once again!
if memory serves me correctly, the ADAC (german equivalent of AA/RAC) in their last monthly members magazine(December issue?) published tests of speed cameras casting considerable doubts on their accuracy. With the ADAC having - what - 5 million members(?) the magazine is widely read, and the article has certainly caused a stir.
But I was over there last on 13th Dec. and did not see any covered up. Knowing the german authorities, GATSOs will have to be pried out of their dying hands.
Fortunately, germans can be healthily rebellious against any form of authority and I have little doubt that a hell of a lot more of speed camera cases will now go to court. Perhaps we can bring the system to its knees that way
