Could do with some advice, just had a NIP sent to my office for an alleged speeding offence (doing 60 in a 50MPh zone on A449 in Worcestershire). The letter states that this is supported by videographic evidence although I Know no fixed cameras exist where the offence was supposed to have been committed. The address given to return the form is only a PO box number and no phone number is printed on the NIP for me to ring. Can anyone tell me if I have any way of defending this in court? Obviously three points and £60 fine is probably all I will get but I'm loathe to admit to an offence that I have seen no evidence of committing! Can someone tell me what videographic evidence amounts to. cheers

If you did not see a flash it is probably laser video from which a still of your car will have been taken. Not much you can do if it was you who committed the offence, unless you enploy the services of a solicitor like Nick Freeman, he seems quite good a getting the rich and famous off, wouldn't like to pay his bill though. 60 in a 50 though ouch what a set of Ba$%^&ds

Thanks for your advice, just a question, is there anyway i can view the evidence for myself before I admit guilt, perhaps if I write to the PO box number on the NIP

I thought it was normal to be sent a photograph with a NIP

I had a NIP sent to me saying that I had broken the 30 mph limit. No photo, no mention of the speed I was doing. My missus is a solicitor and contacted the local 'Central Ticket Office'. I imagine that all police forces have one of these. She called back to say it was a 'mobile unit' and that a still photo was taken off video. I was invited to go and view it at one of the police stations. They said it was a very clear photo of a TVR car from behind with two occupants! I too it on the chin and coughed up the £40 (at the time) for doing 42 mph. (Not a built up area I hasten to add - but a rural 30 mph area - Sunday lunchtime!).

It happened on the main Worcester to Kidderminster "dual carriageway" which has - for no apparent reason, been turned into 50 mph in some parts and also had the lanes reduced from two to one in places. ( I suppose to help keep the traffic flowing !!! )

I know the A449 well - they have an unmarked silver vectra estate with a camera/laser contraption sticking out the back of it - I have seen it here a number of times, usually on entering the Ombersley 50mph limit from Worcester. Take special care on Sunday mornings! Best of luck...
