A quick question for the BiB / legal types here. What is the requirement for bus lane signs. I'm think abou the hours of operation specifically.

The reason I ask is that my local council in Kingston have made a bus lane that has no signs marking its hours of operation. Am I right in thinking that this means 24 hours a day 7 days a week, or have they simply not put the signs up yet. All the other bus lanes in town are marked with hours of operation signs.

It would be useful to know as the bus lane enables you to turn right at a set of traffic lights that would cut a certain aount of time off my journey home.

Thanks

Chris

Most bus lanes will have signs saying who can use them and when. They will be blue with white signing and indicate whether the lane is 'with flow' or 'contra flow'
They normally indicate that taxis and motorcylces can use them if that is the local authorities intention.
if there are no signs saying otherwise, then it would be safe to assume that it applies 24 hours a day and only buses can use them

Rule 120 Highway Code states

These are shown by road markings and signs. You must not drive or stop in a tram or bus lane during its period of operation unless the signs indicate you may do so.
