85 in a 50 (rural clear dual carriageway)

6 points, 800 pound fine.

A bit steep, but it's means tested.

The magistrate tried to give me my form back, saying "this is supposed to be your weekly income". Had to look sheepins and explain that that was weekly, then clench for the bad news.

85 in a 50!
I'd say you were lucky....sort of!
I'd happily pay £800 to keep my license after that!

As you say tho, its means tested, which is a good thing as £800 is nothing to some, but an awful lot to most. Would be daft to fine everyone the same.

I'd hoped that in the circumstances (wide, clear, empty dual carriageway, middle of nowhere), I might get away with 3 points. Expected a couple of hundred pound fine, so was a bit surprised by the saze.

Strangely, didn't seem to help that I was in Lotus...

Well, 35 mph over the limit, they're gonna hit you reasonably hard even if it was quiet. Still think you are lucky to have kept your license.

edited...oopss, forgot you were in a 50 zone!
