.. to laugh or cry this afternoon.

Just heading back to work on my usual route and a car coming towards me flashes his lights, car in front hangs on the anchors, drops to about 40 mph and I snuggle up behind at the same speed.

About 300-400 yds ahead I see a gaggle of dayglo suits and a little red metro. Get a bit closer and another dayglo pops out from behind a BIG streetlight pole (the off tall ones) holding what I can only assume is a radar gun (never really seen one up close, so don't ask me what type it was).

Now the thing that got me was:
1/ The gun operator was clearly well hidden behind the light pole - I couldn't see him at all

2/ There was no marked or unmarked cars around - they must've been dropped off by a van.

3/ The driver of the metro was a shell shocked blue-rinser - you can imagine how peeved she will now be with 3 points on her licence.

4/ Last week there was a speed survey box on the road for about 5 days.

5/ This road has NO houses, businesses, turnings, bends or ANYTHING on it at all , yet its a 50 limit (average speed along it in the dry has to be over 60 IMHO, for most people). For anyone in the area, its the link road down by the powerstation in Rugely..

So there you have it - Plod comes out, does a speed survey, then instead of adjusting the limit on a safe road, clamps down in an attempt to raise revenue - this road is in NO WAY DANGEROUS!!!!!!!

But methinks the people they pull will all be gnerally law-abiding citizens, who will now have a grduge against plod - good PR, boys!

My aunt got done in one of these trap and stop jobs.

Fella with the radar gun records her speed at over the limit radios to his mate who then literally jumps out in the middle of the road in an ealing comedy palm outstretched 'Stop!' kind of way with only about 20ft to spare in front of her car, and she hit him whoops!

The officer in charge at the time had witnessed all this and said it wasnt her fault as she had no chance of stopping.

I would have loved to have seen the looks on all their faces!

Matt.

I thought only police officers had the power to stop traffic like that?

Cheers, Phil
