Hi Vis Cameras are Dangerous Says Cop
Hide them or just scrap them?
Discussion
Of course a Stockport traffic cop would say they were dangerous, what with balancing your speedometer at 30 and all. Just proves that speed cameras aren't in accident black spots where they claim to be. Maybe the government's thinking was just to create some more black spots to justify the cameras?
You see a cameraat distance, slow down gradually and are no hazaed to others.
You see a camera at the last minute, brake suddenly and are an instant hazard.
You don't see camera, get flashed, don't find out until a week later, and had not caused a hazard to anyone - but have increased the coffers of the local constabulary.
Which will show the best results for Safety.

Speaking from my own experiences on a stretch of the A14 (50mph zone)...
When the cameras (they are not hidden btw) were grey people would stick to 70-80mph and slam their brakes on at the last minute, before speeding up again until they reached the next one where they slammed their brakes on again.
Now the cameras are yellow, and I've noticed now that drivers slow down to 50mph at the start of the 50mph zone and pretty much stick to 50mph all the way until the resumption of the NSL. Going by this cops logic surely the cameras being high visibility would increae the speed/brake-slam situation, yet the opposite seems to be true...
