Sincerely hope andyf007 is a wind up.

There's a lot of talk on here about sppeding/cameras.
I can't help thinking that there must be more we can all do to sort the system out..

join ABD I know, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything fast.. correct me if I'm wrong but I haven't seen it in the news.. only on places like PH.

Fuel protests spring to mind, not that they did anything, but more perseverance might have...

You say that, but unleaded hasn't wandered over 72p for ages, and even Optimax is under 80p. Think back to pre fuel protests and 80ppl for 95 unleaded wasn't that uncommon......

How about a day driving at below the speed limit, say by 5mph (i.e. 25 in a 30, 65 on the motorway).

I wonder how much money would be lost if not one driver was caught for speeding!

Unfortunately the police would probably do you for holding up traffic.

Wouldn't it be glorious.. a Convoy of high powered cars across all three lanes of the M5 doing 70 MPH... fantastic.. that would make News at 10.. (if it still existed)

The ABD can't do too much because of lack of funding.
Join them and help that's the answer.
The more people that join and donate the more money they have to invest in defending the motorist.

OR - Why don't we just all gas on here all day and leave the Government to sort out our freedom for us.

There seems to be a national slow down event every day on the western by pass.
An organised slow down event would get on the news, if we all joined in, but the bu66ers in power would just look upon it as a success!

If anyone fancies doing a lap of the M 25 @ the imposed limits on a Saturday afternoon then I'm up for it

I suggested a "Sticking to the Speed Limit Convoy" to demonstrate (by following them exactly) how stupid the current rules are. Lots of people quite rightly pointed out that this would be very difficult to do as traffic speed is frequently below the speed limit on many main routes - plus HGV's and things travel much more slowly anyway.

I still say it's a damn fine idea though, if someone could find a way to pull it off.

No, but he's a wind up merchant.

And look what it's produced. A realisation that to get rid of the cameras, you need to stop speeding for a bit (it may take longer).

speeding fines = cameras = revenue = more cameras = even more fines = etc. etc.

A slow down daymonth? Big M just put the same thing on my much loved thread. Can you make it happen?

no speeding fines = redundant cameras = no revenue = no cameras = revenue (dependant on current scrap prices)

As an added bonus on a slow down day, all the motorists who already drive within the limits would inadvertantly appear to be part of the protest, even the lorry drivers!

In fact the old cameras would be great for trackdays. You could get photos with speeds at various points around the track. you might have to pay for the film, but it won't be £60!!

And slowly the worm turned.......

Errrr, are you double bluffing Andy?

By the way, if we all slowed down to the limits, they'd only LOWER them further in order to catch more people again. And with justification of the 85th percentile.....

Er...nope. Back to "normal" now.

It would seem to be a good way to protest, but like you say, they will conjure up some statistics that say accidents went down during the protest or something.

The plates off day is an alternative, but it's a lot easier for you bikers, as your plates only look like the wash care label's hanging out of your jacket anyway.

One other problem.

If everyone drove within limits for a month, and I mean EVERYONE, the cameras would still be there.

By the time the debate over their future had finished we'd have all died of old age.

Afterwards they'd only re-appear when everyone sped up again. Personally I think direct(er) action is required. (Though I don't have the guts to do it myself!!!)

I think you're right, you won't now be rid of them ever. But continue paying the fines, and you fund the technology. We've already got as far as SPECs in a very short time. If they can justify it,and with enough spin they can justify anything, then you will soon get the automatic speed limiters.

I remember the time before cameras, and it was fun, but now they're here, let's not make it worse.

Andy.. you say let's not make it worse, but you also say.. we're as far as SPEC's and limiters will not be far away... how can this get worse?!?!?

I see your point, but it's obvious that now the technology is available (all you need to do is link up a GPS in the right way) to automatically limit speeds, it wont take the twats in power long to make it mandatory...

Somebody has to stop them! and it's not like the so-called motorists organisations are going to do anything (by that I mean the ones people have heard of: AA, RAC)

To get limits up write to your MPs, once they realise there might be more votes in it they might well change thier tune.

Write to tony as well he is one of the most populist Pms we have had and if he thought it would get him up in the poles he would jump at it.

At the moment its just the anti speed lobby making all the noise.

Its funny this , in Denmark they have just voted in a new gov that is on the right of politics over here , they have given the local councils the right to "increase" speed limits up from 110kph to 130kph
Mind you if you are on a Danish motorway overtaking at 140kph you will have a line of cars right up your chuff

Hertsbiker, do you mean the rule that says the speed limit should be the one ABOVE which 85% of people drive?

How about everyone who gets a speeding ticket going to court over it, think of the paperwork and court time involved.
