Speeding while overtaking?
Discussion
Can anyone tell me if it is deemed OK to exceed the speed limit during overtaking, ie nip up to 70 to get passed a car doing 55 in a 60? I would assume that spending as little time on the opposite side of the road as possible would be a good thing, but how would a police car following you view it?
It's probably been asked before, but I can't find it.

There is not much more paperwork in filling out an endorsable ticket (speeding) than a non endorsable ticket (fog light). It probably takes about 2 minutes more, if that.
It would very much depend on the circumstances of the overtake and the attitude met when the offending driver was stopped.
Well looks like we have regional IAM differences then cause I quizzed our examiner and was told that since Speeding is an absolute offence then you are speeding if you overtake a vehicle at 70mph in a 60mph limit. Even for a few seconds.
The point they made was that you should be formulating a driving plan based on all the necessary pointers and if it is clear to do so AND you have enough speed left within the limit then you can OTHERWISE no of coarse you can't.
Otherwise the IAM is basically inviting you to SPEED - duh!!!!!!!
